While it hasn't gotten much attention, Mossberg just released a new model of the 590. It's called the 590S and can run the 1 3/4 Aguila mini shells in addition to 2 3/4 and 3 inch shells. You don't need to use a mini shell adaptor like the OPSol. The mini shells are a lot of fun and ballistically are comparable to the lower recoil defense shells but you can load more in the tube. The only downside I can see is the ugly white 590S lettering on the receiver!

Or will this be included in a newer model of the Shockwave? Which means vendors closing out the older models?

The mini shells are a hoot. Nasty buckshot loads available in them, too. What is great about this model is you can carry standard length shells on the sidesaddle or stock loops and aren’t limited to mini shells, yet can carry a full tube of minis for great capacity.

The mini shells are great they add capacity and really aren't much less powerful.

Yes- What drives standard shot shell length are a few factors:

- Legacy powder volume requirements from the BP days.
- Enhanced performance wads (not just fiber disks).
- With steel shot, lower density shot necessitating more "cargo area".

If you are willing to sacrifice some patterning (shot/buckshot) or general accuracy (slugs), there is not a lot of reason why full 2 3/4" performance can't be achieved with a way shorter shell.

What exact part is new on the 590S that makes it feed the mini shells ? I have seen the OPSol adapter that you can buy for the Mossberg to shoo the mini shells.
