I have had this rifle for 11 years. I have never shot a factory round in it. I have had 3 misfires primer dented but no ignition on 3 occasions. Today i was checking zero and had 2 misfires in 8 rounds. I rechambered both rounds and tried to fire them no ignition. When i got home I disassembled the cartridges with my bullet puller. Powder charge was dry and full weight as I had recorded in my log.

I have been reloading for 46 years and only recall these 3 bad primers?? I squirted the bolt with brake cleaner and CLP. I had some primed 7mm08 brass handy. I fired 4 with no problem. I have never disassembled the bolt perhaps it had a little grime in it. However earlier today before cleaning the bolt, I fired 6 reloads at my target and they fired normally. I use CCI large rifle primers.

What say you?

Bad primers are extremely rare, I'd check your firing pin Protrusion, the firing pin spring and won't hurt to check headspace. You have any pictures of the duds

I got the duds mixed up with other fired brass. How does one measure firing pin protrusion? How much is enough??

I found a youtube video on disassembly of the TC Venture bolt. I have never disassembled it!! will give that a try and report back It may be a little grimey after 10 years! LOL

Look at the dent on a fired round and on a failed one. I always keep a sharpie on me to mark things like this. Then try to fire it a second time. You should be able to tell which primer did not ignite when you remove them still. I would also carefully take the primer out and remove the anvil. Then check the amount of primer compound and wether it was burned at all. CCI primers have never failed me once. In 30+ years of reloading. Not one primer of any brand has been bad in my ammo so far either. I have heard of bad batches of primers though so could be possible. Hopefully it will turn out to be a problem with your bolt or firing pin.

I've had some new primers where the anvil was loose in the sleeve. So check to make sure everything is complete. I had to place the anvil back into the cup before seating. Worked fine just a pita if you have to do very many. I even had to reuse a anvil from a spent primer 1 time.

Like others make sure your FP is not gummed up.

Disassembled bolt as per video , cleaned with brake cleaner dried off with compressed air, applied lite coat rem oil. Did find a very little Crud in bolt mechanisn. fired
5 primed cases worked fine.
I have photos of firing pin protrusion and tip of firing pin. not smart enough to attach???

You may be over sizing the brass.
My Colt Lt. Rifle will give miss-fires if I load my brass using an older set of RCBS DIES, SET TO TOUCH , the shell holder.

I discovered this the hard way, losing a couple of deer because the gun wouldn’t fire.
Placing a small piece of masking tape on the shoulder of the ammo that wouldn’t fire, pushed the cases head against the bolt when chambered allowing ammo to fire.
Firing pin protrusion was measured and though on the low end, was within nominal specs.
Full length sizing brass with a Lee set, presented no problems.
I have 6 30/06 rifles, two of which are M1’s, so brass segregation is problematic.

The Colt is a superlative rifle (clone of New Ultra Light Rifle custom rifle) so I can excuse its finickness.
