The “Perfect” .22 Rifle

I'm still searching for the perfect .22. In all I have around 60 of them. Anschutz, Winchester, Sako, Remington, Marlin, Browning, Weatherby, a lot. But there's something about an 80 year old rifle that still shoots better than anything made today. The speedmaster will always be one of my favorites. 1102211930a.jpg

Define "perfect" and you will find exactly zero. Carry. Hunting. Target, offhand, bench, 50, takedown, survival? John Staffing has made a hundred K writing about b the perfect packin pistol, and still is writin.

I don’t know about perfect but this one’s my current favorite:

It’s a 10” 10/22 with a modified ProMag folding stock and a Spectre II silencer. It makes a great and very quiet package for small game or just shooting out the back door.

As each shooting personality is different there is, of course, no "perfect" gun in any caliber.

I do like my Marlin 39A. It is built as a regular man sized rifle. The action is smooth and the feeding is flawless. The gun is inherently accurate and can hold 10 rounds +. With a scope I hit center bull on most every (always have to say most) shot at 50 yards.

I wish you luck on the new rifle which appears to be better suited to your needs. I too always appreciate a lightweight rifle when hitting the squirrel woods and I’m now considering scoping my soon to be purchased Mark IV pistol for an even lighter option.

My own pride and joy among my rimfires is a Marlin 25N that shoots undeniably well for its sub-$90 new price somewhere in the early ‘90s.

I've got the same rifle, purchased in the mid 90's for $125. Still one of my all time favorite firearms.

When I was a kid at camp, the man in the next camp had one of these and I really loved it, but never got to shoot it, mainly because I was only about 6 yrs. old at the time.

If the targets are very small objects, possibly tiny spots on a berm or (-rural-) ….very high…River Bank  ….it’s a perfect rifle.

Today I will be breaking in my BCA 22LR side charging upper. Hopefully, no issues. I slapped a better-mag in so I can run M&P15-22 mags.
I still have yet to shoot my 10/22 that I slapped in a HTA bullpup kit

Boy, I am really beginning to not like this thread! :(
You guys just cost me $2,617!!! (tax included) While perusing a website gunstore, I fell in love with an Anschutz 1712 AV Silhouette and could not resist The Force!
It will arrive while I am travelling, so I will not see it for another 2 weeks or so......

Maybe it's Merry Christmas to me?:what::D:D:D

Perfection is in the eyes of the beholder applies. I gave a Marlin 39A to a family member but kept a Winchester M9422 Legacy and CZ M452-2e rifles

Merry Christmas indeed! The problem with buying an Anschutz rifle is simple to explain: One is never enough. Congratulations on your acquisition!

The first year Ruger came out with the 77/22 I went to a gun show with cash in hand to buy one. I was looking for a nice bolt action 22. I finally found one on a display table and on the table next to it was a new Clackamas Kimber Model 82 with one of the nicest production walnut stocks I had ever seen. It was $60.00 more than the Ruger 77/22.

As you can see from the photo the blueing is worn off the bolt knob from me shooting it. The pictures don't do this gun justice. The trigger has no creep and is crisp as glass. And it will put ten shots inside a dime at 25 yards. The scope is a Leupold 2x7 rimfire. And it has a hand checkered metal butt plate.

I have many rifles and pistols but this Model 82 is by far my favorite.

You guys and this thread are killing me …… well killin my savings account :(:(

:fire:……… I been checking out this thread now and again . Then wound up window shopping over at GunBroker:(:(. I stumbled across a newly refinished Marlin 39a with Ballard rifling ,and an “almost to reasonable to be true” Buy-it-Now price…… , and it just so happened that I knew a guy that worked at the Pawn/Gun shop that was selling it. I made a quick phone call and my buddy he knew the gunsmith that did the work and had handled this rifle himself. He also told me that his wife had already put the brakes on him buying it..;)

Sooooo my twisted brain said to me……… “ you have always told yourself that you wanted to be able to give each grandchild a 39a since they may grow up in a world where they are not available . Annnnnd with the birth of your latest grandson ( 9 months old) you now have one more grandchild than you do 39a’s??? “

You guessed it …… I hit the Buy-it-Now button:oops::oops: I hope my grandson is smiling like this when hand it to him in a dozen or so years:):)
