Best Universal Decapping Die

I use the Lee ones. Im happy with them. I never tried any other brands.

I like my Lyman... but they all basically work the same.

I would suggest you use whichever brand you already stock spare decapping pins and mandrels for. I'm unaware of any real differences in performance between the usual brands.

I use a Lee for all calibers I reload 38sp thru 500S&W and 223 and 308. Probably decapped 10k+ on the original pin. I only process brass that I have fired - no range pick-ups, no "one time fired"....

I have never had an issue. Not sure what one would not like about a decapper - assuming it does its job.

I just started decapping with the Lee Universal in the garage. No longer using my RCBS sizing die in .308 and 9mm. Works great and is very inexpensive. Of course, it only does one simple thing so it should be.

I swage with my new RCBS gizmo, in the garage, and it's okay, but I probably would tried the Lee Ram (?) whatever if I'd known it existed.

Lee Universal Decapping Die ... first type that I ever tried and I have had no reason to research other brands.

I bought the Lee, cheapest. It is a pin to punch out primer. Not particularly complicated. Bought the small first, then the larger. To cover everything I load.

I have broke 2 pins. Both were on crimped primers from range pick up brass.

I decamp everything in range bag, when I come in. Throw it in cleaner.

Actually, have never seen anything other than the Lee's.

RCBS Universal decap die,
and with the help of a THR member(@Demi-human ), ground the pin to a flat point.
5-pack of spare pins at Midsouth Shooter's Supply for less than $3.
Cheap, easy, prolly won't ever wear it out.

Curious as to what you didn’t like about the 2 you tried? They all function the same. What is it that you are really looking for?

My Lee carbide sizing die averaged about 20 cases before the pin would push out the collet and require resetting, and when I cranked it down hard enough to not do that the pin bent. Total cases decapped was about 200.

I got an FW Arms Primer Popper and have run through 800 more with no issues. Money well spent.

I have started using the Lyman spring loaded decap die
I have done about 600 9mm and 300 .223 works without a problem.
Am using it on the lee APP press (1 of 2). Sure makes decaping easy and fast

I use the Lee.

Lee is $12! buy 3 and call it a lifetime

I have a Lee and an RCBS. I like the Lee the best.

Something about the anvils of certain SPP's cause them to hang up/stick to the decapping pin. The pin pushes the primer out, primer sticks to pin and then it gets pulled back in to the primer pocket just enough to stick.

Aggravating for such a simple tool.

I have both Redding and RCBS decapping dies. Both work as advertised.

I also have the 17 caliber Redding decapping die. It does the job on 17 and 20 caliber cases.

I use the Lee on everything I bring home from the range and it has handled close to 85k so far. 0 issues, lots of unknown crimped found brass, lots of dirty brass, some rocks, sticks, mud, stuff I couldn’t figure out. Still works like the day I bought it and if it failed I’d replace with the same and be happy.
