At 63 & 66 we consider the drag out before we shoot a deer. It has to be a flat drag or a down hill drag.
My brother had a work place accident and had two disc in his back that got shattered and is according to his doctor 87% disabled so the drag out is our main concern before we shoot a deer.
There has been a lot of opportunities to shoot a bunch of deer, but they have to be an easy drag out.
I always try to shoot my deer uphill, because at 52, I hate dragging them uphill. The last one jumped downhill 75 feet after I shot him. I had to shove his teeth in the ground for traction. He decided to jump off a 70* bank. That almost killed me.

I just shot a doe on Tuesday on level ground and it winded me out dragging it out.you can't find any young bucks that want to go hunting any more. When our generation dies off the hunting will come to an abrupt halt.
This past generation thinks food comes in a container from the supermarket and their kids will be farther unattached.
I,m happy I'm, my way out of this hell hole we are living in where there are 20 different genders and no is held responsible for their actions.
Until then I'll just keep on keeping on and shoot my deer and be happy.

My "Brother from another mother" has two boys. Both have hunted since they were old enough.
I gave both of them knives for their HS graduations and just the other day I got pictures of the oldest with a nice Kansas buck that he got with his bow. The text said,"Your knife got used again". I told him it ain't my knife it's HIS.

Went back to the UK for my daughters wedding at the end of October. So while I was there I arranged a hunting trip for Chinese Water deer and Muntjac for myself and a Swedish mate. We both shot a CWD and a muntjac apiece. Then it was down to the county of Sussex to hunt with a mate of mine. My Swedish mateanaged to shoot. 11 deer in 3 days laying waste to the fallow population of the south of England. Then after 3 days back home in Sweden it was off to Croatia for driven boar hunting. 76 boar in 4 days to 15 guns. I shot 5 so it was a great trip.

Rifle season opens tomorrow. We have about 2” of snow overnight I am hoping stays till Tuesday. Sighting in my Marlin 1895 and Handi rifle yesterday and 1-1.5” groups will work. Will be washing clothes and packing today. When one hits the dirt I’ll post a pic.

Filled my antlerless tag yesterday afternoon on a small button buck that I mistakenly thought was an average size doe. One shot from the .30-30 at about 75-100 yards. He took off like I missed him but only went maybe about 60 yards and was stone dead when I finally found him. After tracking him in the two or so inches of snow and seeing no blood for quite a ways. Finally saw a few very small drops and then saw him just ahead of me. Awful glad we had snow on the ground; otherwise he would have taken a lot longer to find. Shot him at 3:23 P.M. which gave me enough time to gut while it's still daylight. Last few deer I've gutted have all been in the dark using flashlights. IMG_3820.JPG ... Still have another antlerless tag for a different area and my buck tag ( good in any area) is still unused. Will be out again Tuesday with the Kimber sporterized 6.5x55 Swedish Mauser trying to fill that buck tag. My other antlerless tag is for a shotgun area and later this week or early next week I'll be using the slug gun to fill that one if my luck holds out.

Just moved to New Hampshire and missed the early duck split because I had to get my hunters cert transferred but made the best out of late season and shared it with my daughter. 3 Trips, 2 geese and 3 ducks, 2 of which were black ducks that were off limits in Maryland and VA. Alot of fun, loving it up here.

On Monday 11/29/21 I got this 8 pointer in Tioga County, PA. One of the guys I was hunting with wounded it and I finished it, so it was a team effort, but we used my tag. We'll split the meat. I plan to make something with the antlers, possibly a coat rack for my friend's deer camp, or maybe haft a couple of knives and make black powder measures.

I used my LH Tikka T3x in 6.5x55 with 156 grain Federal Fusions.

Congrats to all! I shot a small doe this afternoon, my first in a while. With the doe being downhill and quartering at 40 yards, the slug glanced off the skull and entered hindward, destroying the spine and pelvic joints. Not ideal perhaps, but I'll take an instant drop and fresh meat. (Believe it or not, this is a "cleaned up" pic. I could have just as easily field dressed it from the wound)

I've been extra busy and didn't bow hunt at all this year. Managed to make time to go out for gun season and this doe came out after ten minutes in the stand on opening morning. Shot her at about 40 yards with a ruger ranch rifle in .450 bushmaster, I had to thread it through some tree limbs and took her through the shoulders. I kept it in the triangle and didn't hit any bone, and the bullet held together and made a large exit wound (winchester deer season XP this year). 90lbs field dressed, I had her in the freezer by dark and haven't made it out to hunt anymore much as I'd like to.

I grew up hunting black ducks in RI and CT, we'd call mallards "park ducks". Back when I hunted them we (RI) were on the point system, blacks were 70 points and you could shoot till you broke 100pts. Later when I returned from my 1st enlistment blacks moved up to 100 pts. It's really good to see them making a comeback. I've since had the opportunity to live and hunt in every flyway, but the New England salt marshes are just special. So much waterfowling history.

Its about time I contributed. After two years of hunting my girlfriend was able to snag her first buck with a 243 at about 65 yards. Double lung with an 80 grain Winchester super x varmint bullet did its job. Probably wouldn't use it on anything much bigger but she's on the board.
