Do you store ammo in your safe?

I did try storing ammo in a gun safe. It got to be a hassle finding what i wanted. It would be ok for a few boxes of ammo in each caliber. I store some on a shelf and some in ammo cans. Working on moving more into cans. My stash has grown considerably since this pic was taken. In cans i can distribute the weight more.

I store only unloaded guns in my safe. Ammo is stored separately, as are all mags (which I store unloaded).

I think it makes for a more efficient use of my limited safe real estate.

I probably would keep ammo in the safe, but theres no room- the ammo has its own locked closet nearby. The only ammo in the safe is in my ready rifle magazines, the gun and mags for which are clearly marked. "LOADED."

No, I keep ammo in storage boxes/ammo cans if in bulk in old lockable locker cabinets, lots of small partial boxes etc in a small Stack-on locking cabinet. I also only keep a few loaded mags in the safes.

Currently the only ammo I keep in the safe is Buffalo Bore, but I plan to add other SD ammo in small quantities.

I keep a lot of ammo in the safes only as "ballast". The ammo does not need to be in there. As far as going off only black powder will. Ammo tossed in a fire as kids was a big disappointment. Smokeless powder has to be under pressure to work it's magic. Primers pop and not much more. Now if you have a loaded firearm and fire? Yes they will go off.
As for Desiccant of some kind for the safe, YES. I use Evadry rechargeable units. keep a couple in each safe. When they show need just plug them in until they are ready again. Use something.

I keep SD ammo in the safe, along with some loaded mags. I have a lot more target ammo that I keep in metal ammo cans of varying sizes in the same walk-in closet that the safe is in.

I do not store any ammo in any of my safes as the safe's interior space is way too valuable that is to be used for more expensive items.

I have a safe just for ammo, when I out grew my old gun safe I upgraded and just filled the old one with ammo.

Same here........

Only ammo I'd store in a safe with my guns, is quick loads for 1st choice of firearm I'd want to grab in a hurry.

Otherwise, I'd want clear visibility with minimum shuffle to find what I want.

I have direct evidence of this:

The fire was in a 40x72 insulated metal building. It was in excess of 2000° F. I had 10k primers, 35lbs of smokeless, 1 lb of holy black, and an oxyacetylene torch in there. Also loaded ammo and components. One of the oxyacetylene tanks exploded, the primers went off like a roll of firecrackers, but I never heard the BP go off. Nor the smokeless. Lead will melt out of the projectiles, which can pop out easily like primers.

Ammo is hugely fire-safe as is (there's a sticky here showing testing of ammo in fire).

And most of mine is tucked into metal ammo cans.

WOW! What a damn mess alright. I will never forget as a young kid buddy and I tossed some ammo we snitched from home in a fire and ran like hell. Of course all we got was a "pop". So then we were pulling the slugs and playing with powder from rounds. One day he got some rounds his Dad had rolled that were done with BP. We did not know the difference until we made a little pile of it and reached down with a match. Instead of fizzle it went WOOSSHHH and both of us had burns on our face. Scared us into being more careful

I don't see a problem with a minimum amount of ammo in the safe. I only keep a few partial boxes in mine. Usually the ammo for my concealed carry pistol and my bedside gun. I also have a few parts in mine. Things like my extra Jewell triggers, shotgun chock tubes, ect. Eventually you will have that 30 gun safe full and will need the space.

And yes, I have a Golden Rod in my safe.

No, I store ammo in military ammo cans which are then placed into a "job box" bin like the type sold at tractor supply or Lowe's, which is then double-locked, and stored in a shed. I don't put desiccant or anything like hat in there either, and I live in Fl. Never had any problems with my ammo, and I have seen it stored in much worse conditions in conex containers in afg. The only exception is that I store my black powder pellets in the plastic box they come in then place the box of pellets in a vacuum sealed bag, inside the house.

No. My safe is full of firearms and documents. If I purchased another safe I still wouldn't have room for ammo and components. Might not be the best setup but it's what I have. I only store a few loaded mags in my safe.

We're trying to find another house with a detached shop or garage. I would move everything firearms related into the out building. Those prospects are becoming increasingly dim however with the real estate market being upside down.
