I've been wanting adjustable sights on an 1858 for a long while, but had wanted to get the 12 inch long barrel "Buffalo" model in steel frame. Those have been exceptionally hard to find for almost 2 years now and I'm giving up hope. The alternative is the 8 inch barrel NMA's with adjustable sights are readily available and I can get one now for $300.

The major issue with the steel frame Buffalo has been few retailers sold them, last one I knew that had them was Old South Firearms around $375. I'm willing to bet if they ever do return they'll be over $400...

Is it time for me to cave and get the 8 inch or should I hold out some hope the steel frame Buffalo's will be back next year?

I see them often on gunbroker and old south firearms as well. Give them a call.

I have the Stainless steel UBERTI, with a Howells 45LC cylinder. I prefer to use smokeless 45 LC cartridges in my Remington simply because the Remington design can not handle BP fouling like my open tops.

Old South hasn't had them for over a year and I don't think calling them is going to make one magically be available. I have no interest buying a USED black powder revolver on Gunbroker.

I'm not sure if I have or had any interest in shooting .45 Colt in this tho, the original interest I had in the Buffalo was to see what I could get with a 12 inch barrel velocity wise and also to see how well I could shoot at 100+ yards with such a long barrel.

The 8 inch doesn't give me that same interest, it would solely be to have something with better sights, that's all. Now that I think about it maybe I should wait.

You could watch GunBroker for a new buffalo. No idea what price would be like, of course.

As for used revolvers, I have bought a few off GunBroker and elsewhere. I think a lot of these get bought, shot a few times, and then put on a shelf when people realize that it takes a lot more time and effort to do so. This spring I bought an 1858 from the 90s that has probably been shot, but was about new in appearance and function.

There is a “new old stock” 12 inch steel adjustable on Gun Broker opening at $350 with no bidders as of Sunday 10am. Buy it now I believe was $450.

I've seen that one for over a year now. Seller uses the same exact pictures every time. I don't trust it.

I have one that's been shot once, six shots.I'll sell it for 350. It's in the box it came with. You can text me at 810-724-5582. I can " shoot" you some pics if I have your cell phone number. At one time a year or so ago I was laid up and bought two 12" and two 8" barreled 1858s, along with a used carbine, a 44 and 36 1858. The used 44 I bobbed the barrel to 2 1/2" and made a birdshead grip, and bought the 45 LC cylinder.I have way too many. I'd sell any of them except the 2.5" barreled one and the carbine. The 12" steel one is the same as new. The other is a nickel plated brasser with some engraving.
