Man do I wish my family was more open minded. I asked my brother how long before I could give my nephew a nice pocket knife, but said if desired I could leave that first knife to his father (my brother) to figure out. You know, sort of a respect the father and son relationship and that perhaps the first knife should come from the kid's dad. He told me a few more years.............. If this is how the kid is raised I have literally no one to leave my guns to, so I will either find cool younger people to gift them to, or just sell them all some day and keep a few.

The kid is 14 for crying out loud. there's a fundamental difference between people who see a knife as a cutting tool that can be pressed into defensive service if needed, and people like my brother, who see all knives as weapons. I wonder if my brother is scared at dinner all the time.

Ok, I'm off topic.............. sorry. Frustration. He just had a birthday and I really want to give him a decent knife. I don't see him often and I'd like him to have something from his uncle to carry around and use. I'd kind of like it to be a thing between us. I'm already thinking about a high school graduation present.

Those are all gorgeous knives, but the Toucan and the Snafu............................ man those are hitting on all 8 cylinders. Wonderful knives.

Sad, please let me know if I'm younger than you, I'm only 74. lol

Seriously, it is sad if he feels he can't trust his 14 year old with a knife.

I find that as time goes by, I like the Victorinox Classic Swiss Army Knife more and more. I have the Spyderco Bug on one set of keys and I'm less and less impressed with it as time goes by. I went to cut the plastic bands on a box of copy paper and the bug wouldn't cut it. So I thought "OK, time to sharpen the Bug." But in the meantime I switched to my little Gerber 200 and I cut the straps easily. I can't remember ever even sharpening the Gerber. I may replace the Spyderco with this new SAK I purchased today:

It is amazing what can be done with a tiny shard of of a blade, a wee little scissors, and tweezers. And once upon a time you could have a choice of red or black, but now the sky is the limit.

A couple of very nice Randall's came in yesterday.

The first is a Randall Model 11 Alaskan stainless:

And, as nice as the Alaskan looked, I thought I would be a little disappointed with the 26-4 Pathfinder stainless with a 25 handle. Well, that is not the case, this is one SWEET little knife:

Picked up a couple of Ganzo button autos and a no name Italian style toggle lock auto today and flipped them for 3x.
