Cobra bearman derringer

A buddy of mine bought the gun for the same reasons as you in .38 Special and has the same issue. He explained it as the bottom barrel only firing if it’s in the mood to fire….

I've actually been wanting a cheap derry, too, for pretty much the same reason, an interest in old-West guns. I already have the coach SxS, a lever rifle, and a SAO revolver (those last two in both rimfire and centerfie), and feel like a card-table "sleeve" gun is next. I'd prefer an older, nickel-plated Davis, though, without the trigger guard. If it works, maybe it will see a round or two of snake shot once in a while..

I have a Cobra C-22M derringer that I bought mostly just for the experience. Frankly, it's a cheap piece of junk. It actually fires a shot only about half half the time. And not from the same barrel. Not worth trying to make right. So much for learning experiences.

Only 2 shots and only fires about half the time.

Exactly what you want in a self defense pistol.

Even with the "Bearman" rebranding, they still the same old Davis / Cobra pieces of junk only suitable for fish tank decorations.

If you are interested in the platform, get a Bond (the Mini's are nice) or a used American Derringer.

I agree that it should have been manufactured to at least reliably fire to its capacity (like any other gun should.)

Finally! Someone with a good idea for my Davis derringer.

I have a .38 Special Davis derringer that I bought back in the mid 90’s. I bought it just for the heck of it. I fired about 20 - 30 rounds from it when I noticed the lower firing pin always sticks out of the breech face if it is the last barrel fired of the two. When I noticed it I had wondered how many times I had closed the barrels with rounds in the chambers with a protruding firing pin.
I have fired about 20 rounds from it since that time. It has always fired but I always check that the lower firing pin isn’t protruding when closing it, regardless of whether it’s loaded or not.
Years ago I decided to off load it in a gun “buy back” but I haven’t heard of any in years near the places I have lived. Go figure…

I think I paid $60 for it. It was a demo gun that someone dropped and banged up the thing they call a front sight.

It would cost me more to give the darn thing away than to just keep it. I live in CA.

At first it fired okay not for long though . Now light primer strikes on the bottom barrel . Firing pin isn't protruding as much as the top barrel .
Anyone have this or heard of it happening ?

Wanted to try again .
Called Bearman today . They answered quick and were very nice . Wanted me to send it in on their dime , I opted to get the parts . Going to try a Cam ,selector and new firing pins .

I know it's junk but I have to see if I can fix it .
If I make it to the gun show this weekend I'm going to see if they have any Bonds .
Don't need one would never carry a Derringer but I want one .

I keep looking at the Davis/Bearman because they have .22 lr versions. But the bad reviews and drop safe issue makes me stall everytime. I bought a 9 mm bond arms out of the historic interest in classic derringers. It’s 100% reliable and drop safe. I then bought a .357/.38 replacement barrel. If someone wants a derringer for historic interest and one that is quality, today that’s Bond Arms.
