I’ve seen online recently questions being asked about the effectiveness of the Hornady Leverevolution 160 gr. 30-30 bullet.
I shoot my hand loads of this bullet with the Leverevolution powder out of my model 94 with good results as far as accuracy and at the distances I need but I have not taken any game with it yet.
My concern is if the bullet is going to hold up or if it will blow up and do a lot of meat damage.

I REALLY WOULD PREFER THIS TO NOT BECOME A SHOT PLACEMENT DIALOGUE….

Does anyone have any experience with actually taking game with the Leverevolution FTX 30-30 bullet?
What has been your experience? Good to go? Bad to the bone?
Thank you in advance for any and all replies

Any bullet fired into a part you plan to eat is going to cause some damage. Since I don't eat lungs, ribs, or neck roasts, I have a couple of options that give me the ability for this not to be a concern- assuming the bullet arrives at the correct address, which is my responsibility.

My nephew has taken a few deer with the 165 gr FTX in .32 Winchester special. He is happy with it. He just bought a box of bullets and more brass to load enough for a decade or two. Can’t give you specifics on the actual terminal performance.

Can’t have your cake and eat it too. If you want to avoid meat damage, don’t put your bullet through big meat.

FTX’s tend to expand pretty readily, and in my use, the 160grn in 30-30 isn’t an exception. Punch it through soft stuff as you should, and it’ll do just fine.

I've seen behind the shoulder shots the last couple years that were not excessive at all but they were from a 14" Contender so probably not the velocity that you are going to see.

As Art Eatman always said, “Don’t shoot them in the eating parts.”

I've shot several WT deer with the 160 gr Leverevolution round and the blew through resulting in big holes and copius amounts of blood even though they didn't go very far.

I shot an Axis buck with them and didn't get a pass through. Found the bullet under the hide on the opposite shoulder. Pretty good retention. No blood trail but it only went thirty yards.

Only ever seen the results from the 140gr .357 mag and it was adequate without being excessive. DRT Iowa whitetail at 60 yards courtesy of my daughter. Good stuff.
