DPMS Rifles

They were bought out by the same company (JJE Capital) that owns a bunch of gun related businesses including Palmetto State Armory which is why you are now seeing DPMS AK's which are rebranded PSA AK's.

Off topic: what a fitting statement in your signature for the times we are in.

PSA sells directly to individuals so dealers don't stock PSA rifles. They cannot sell them for the low price individuals can get directly from PSA. PSA is providing ARs and AKs under the DPMS brand name to dealers so they don't have to compete with PSA's lowest price business model.

I was going to buy a AR15 is 7.62x39 from Atlantic. Because im sick of waiting for a bolt action to show up. It was 500.00. Not bad.

That's not a bad price for a 7.62x39 AR (or any AR really)

Does the one you ordered take AK mags, or 7.62 C-products?

I didn't order it. Decided to be patent. And wait for a bolt action to come in.

Gotcha.

Can't decide if I want a bolt gun in 7.62x39 or 300blk.

On one hand, cheap steel case ammo, on the other I already have a bunch of 5.56 brass and 308 bullets.

I am pretty disappointed in JJE Capital / PSA with respect to this decision. They buy the DPMS brand but seem to have no understanding of the brand's legacy. DPMS never had a thing to do with AKs before why would you use the brand that way now, suddenly? This decision makes me significant less likely do business with them going forward.

I will spare the thread more of my jaded ramblings and leave this link from early October where we discussed this decision to use the DPMS brand this way and why I dislike the decision.

JJE/PSA is using the brand name, nothing more. They bought an IP asset, they did not purchase the St. Cloud facility nor the manufacturing equipment from Alabama. They’re riding on the coattails of the DPMS legacy in the minds of consumers who don’t understand the DPMS legacy.

But, in the end, a distinction without a difference, really. Different models made on different equipment by different people under ownership of a different company… but it’s pretty difficult to mess up an AR, and producing an AK, eh, there remains a market for it… doesn’t really matter what name is on the side. Not so dissimilar to what’s going on with Winchester, or what happened with Marlin multiple times - when Miroku released a new Winchester model, people still bought it, even though it had no aspect of the Winchester legacy attached to it. When Marlin released their bolt action rifles, same deal - the Remington designed and manufactured bolt guns had nothing to do with Marlin legacy, but consumers bought it…

DPMS made good products, now they don’t make anything, and someone else is making products and slapping the DPMS brand name on the side… it is what it is.

Yes a distinction without a difference unless you knew the people and that is what bothers me, "They’re riding on the coattails of the DPMS legacy in the minds of consumers who don’t understand the DPMS legacy." I know this very well, what was left of DPMS before it was complete shutdown by Ken D'Arcy (before the second bankruptcy not because of the second bankruptcy) was here in Huntsville. I knew several DPMS employees that had moved here when St Cloud was shutdown and DPMS production was brought to Huntsville. I know the legacy of DPMS fairly well and seeing what JJE/PSA is doing with the name bothers me (What Remington did with Marlin was just as bad if not worst).

That said I do not expect everyone to care or let the actions of JJE bother them. JJE bought the name and can do what they want with it, they own it. Other people can spend their money as they see fit. But I also feel somewhat justified in spreading what information I have on how badly DPMS ended and that what JJE is doing with the name has no connection to the original DPMS or even the Remington DPMS in any way other than the name and associated copyrights. If someone knowing that (or not) still wants to buy a DPMS AK, enjoy.
