New Style Replacement Small & Large Trays & Covers - Lee Precision

The small tray in my old kit with the rectangle tray has broken, I can still use it with a rubber band keeping the top on. When I wrote Lee they said I could replace it with the above kit. I tried to videos of them loading primers into the folding tray, but could only find videos of them using the primer, or showing you how to use it. Currently I just put the bottom of the tray on the box only the primers, turn it upside and put the tray lid on. Works great. But it doesn't look like this new tray is going to be easy to use. Is this worth getting? If I can't dump the entire tray in at one time, it's a no go from the start.

I just watched a Johnny's Reloading Bench video last night on YouTube that showed how that primer tray works. It even fits the large Federal primer boxes. Looks like you fold it out flat, put it over the top of the box tray of primers, then flip, then gently slide all of the primers over to the bottom/grooved portion and close the lid. Does not look like it works anywhere near as well as my RCBS hand priming tool and Johnny mentioned that he always looses 2-3 primers out of the Lee primer tray and this in fact happens in the video.

Ouch, losing 2-3 out of the tray is not good, especially in my work area, they could be hard to find. Looks like I'll continue to use the rubber band since it works. If I end up needing it fixed, I'll just buy a different hand priming system that lets you just put the tray over the box and flip. Thanks, and I'll search for the Johnny's Reloading Bench.

I went ahead and ordered, it's only $16 so I'll see how it works, if not, the rubber band works fine.

I've used the new tray four time now, it's functional is the best I can say for it. It primes the primers just fine. The issue is getting all the primers in the fold over tray and not spilling any and then having to push half of them into the side that will be the bottom and then turning over the 20-30 that are upside down once you push them to the bottom of the fold over part. I'll give it a while longer, but I may go back to the broken tray that I hold on with a rubber band. Make sure when you fill the tray with primers it's over something you can easily find the spilled primers, because they will spill.
