IDPA.com has a member survey as to whether the fashionable AIWB holster should be allowed in competition.

If you are not a member, write in and tell them you will join if you can wear your style holster.

Frankly I'd be amazed to see it pass, going to be hard from an RSO perspective to see what if any body parts get swept while drawing. I'd love to see it allowed, it might put the "defensive", back into IDPA.

If you watch videos from the old days of practical shooting, you see a lot of holsters on belts (outside the waistband) in that same position

And as one old-timer said, you will see a lot of sweeping going on, too.

I approved on the survey with the caveats that holsters should stay open and not have to be peeled back to insert the pistol and recommended a starting position offset to the strong side so the shooter would not be starting out at 179 degrees.
I think the SOs will need remedial instruction to be strict with AIWBs.

I watched the same thing in CAS. You are SUPPOSED to twist to the strong side so cross drawing your second sixgun does not violate the SASS 170 degree limit. I saw a lot of competitors just kind of wiggle their butt and draw.

CAS "Cowboy Swish"

Is how I drew my 2nd Colt in CAA, basically as you described, you pivot your left hip towards the berm as to not break the 180 and muzzle anybody behind you.

Based on what I've personally seen of people shoving their glocks,or Beretta 92s withe the hammer cocked/safety off, into their OWB holsters with shirts/sweatshirts/twinkies jammed in them, I don't think an AIWB option is going to go well, personally. I guess we can practice tourniquet use...
