Savage Stance

I looked at the Savage a little more online.
MSRP of $479, entering a market that has some really nice options with a lower price is making me wonder. I would like to handle one before I make any decisions. I was expecting a $299 selling price or less entering this segment of the market.

I'm thinking they will be selling for less than MSRP. I noticed magazine capacity is 7 or 8 rounds. I don't think it will fare well in today's market. Of course I could be wrong.

7-8 rounds in today's market, not going to get any play. What were they thinking?

Too many great options of similar size with greater capacity (Hellcat, Glock, P365, Ruger Max, S&W Shield Plus, etc). And before one says I don't need 10+1, 12+1 or 15+1; one doesn't have to fill the magazine.

I'll stick with my G48 with 15+1.

The more the merrier, but I hate to see gun companies chase good money after bad investments.

It would not have made any sense for Savage to try to compete in larger service-class pistol categories, what with the constant threat of magazine capacity bans on the horizon. I think the subcompact / microcompact carry gun niche makes sense for Savage, assuming that a decision to get back into the handgun market makes sense at all.

I wish them well.

I love Savage. However, I don't get this lineup. 7 and 8 round magazines? No! That market has come and gone. Good luck but it will be a bust!

Yeah, well nobody thought mullets would make a comeback either.
Based on MSRP, I'd expect to see them in cases in the $375- $400 range so I doubt it's intended to compete with the P365's and Hellcats of the world. Single stacks are still a decent piece of the pie.

I haven’t seen it advertised or reviewed yet so this is all news to me. It is a crowded market, one with several established makers that have had quite a head start.

If it holds onto the lower cost rungs to compete with SCCY, l can see them selling a fair amount of units. But time will tell if it was a good financial move, or a bad one, for Savage management to have developed the gun and marketed it.

If anyone gets one let us know how it shoots.

Stay safe.

Don't have and don't want a plastic 9, but if I did want one, I would be willing to look long and hard at one made by Savage. Hard to beat an American made success story.

That grip vaguely reminds me of the FN 503 which was a skinny grip and didn't hold much either. Don't know why they wouldn't fatten it up and make a 1.5 stack and make it a 10 rounder starting like most of the other micros 9s

I consider a subcompact, flat, single-stack with a polymer frame to be a "utility" gun, one for general knock-around carry or stash. Since I've had an example of the original, the Kel-Tec PF9, since 2010 and have never has a problem with it, I'll stick with that.

I agree that this option is a bit tardy, but not irrelevant. I also thought of the Mossberg thing when I read the thread opener line.
