I have just about worn out a S&W MP .22 (the Original not Compact), and I am looking for a new suppressor host plinker. I don't like the puny child sized .22s. (like the M&P Compact or smaller). Since the full sized S&W MP has been out of production for years now, I am looking for an alternative. I'd like to get something that "looks" and feels like a run of the mill striker fired semi-auto for teaching new shooters. The Taurus 22 seems like the best of the bunch at present.

Does anyone have any thoughts or opinions on the TX .22?

I don't want a Glock 44, while I like their centerfire offerings its BS they don't thread the barrel from the factory.

I had the bad barrel issues with the TX22 I bought. Taurus sent me one replacement barrel, but it was worse than the first with the chamber not being centered with the barrel. When I called a second time they wanted me to send the entire gun in. I just sold it rather than deal with them. The person I sold it to was informed of the issues.

I keep reading that the barrel issues have been fixed and read posts by many TX22 owners that they are happy. My experience was not positive.

With hundreds of rounds through my TX22, I would have to say I am well pleased with it. Experienced two FTF--both with VERY OLD Navy Issue stuff that I had laying around, so I assume ammunition related.

Love mine, got comp slide for it too now fitted with a mrd. Got it early on and yeah first barrel was bad so I just bought another one and it works very well too. Load mags correctly and it is flawless.

If you want a 22 suppressor host that handles like a wondernine polymer gun IMHO the TX22 is tough to beat. But my favorite 22 suppressor host is my S&W Victory

Love my TX22, have both uppers and it shoots great with either. The FN 502 is another suppressor ready .22 I've had great luck with, they're solid shooters if you can find one.

I have the standard TX22 and the Competition and have several thousand rounds through both without a single issue. I cannot say enough good things about both models. I would look at the Competition. A red dot attaches directly to the barrel, so no weight issues with the red dot reciprocating. The longer sight picture makes the Competition ridiculously accurate - sub 1 inch groups at 25 yds. And with a compensator the Competition has virtually no recoil. CB22A26F-5103-4B7F-8AAD-0D88692F3F0B.jpeg

I've put thousands of rounds through my three year old TX22. It goes to the range more often than any other gun I own. Lots of fun. It sports a CR 206 laser which multiplies the fun factor. Had problems with some crappy unknown brand ammo bought during the peak of the shortage. HV works best. Excellent fun to price ratio IMHO.

The TX22’s were plagued with bad barrels from a contract company Taurus went with when bringing them to market and from what I’ve seen they were as bad as what people were saying. They have since resolved the barrel issue.

For the price they can’t be beat, 16+1 rounds, good ergos, threaded barrel and reliable (as far as a 22lr goes).

The ergos are reminiscent (stolen) from Walther PPQ line of pistols, my opinion there. And they do feel really nice in the hand.

Another 22 to look at would be the Walther PPQ .22 (NOT THE P22). Holds 12+1, they have a threaded version, great ergos as well and I’ve had great reliability with mine shooting suppressed.

Between the two it’s hard not to recommend the Taurus but I don’t have near the round count through the TX22 as I do the PPQ.

Anything other than the Taurus should be fine, I mean only if you want a working gun you can rely on and a company that will actually service correctly and stand behind their product.

I don't want to badly sidetrack this thread, but . . . . goodness gracious, now many rounds did it take to wear out an S&W MP .22?!?

I can't speak for the S&W M&P .22 but my S&W M22A "fluted bull barrel" purchased in Dec 2005 went back to S&W for repair about every 70-80,000 rounds (about 3 years of shooting back then when .22lr was like $0.02 per round) and they fixed it for free paying for shipping both ways three times. The 4th time, just before Hurricane Harvey hit us in 2017 they said they couldn't fix it and sent me the threaded Bull barrel Victory that I now have for "free", cost me $20 for the transfer :)

Good as the M22A was for me, the Victory is better!

There isn't a company out there now that someone on here hasn't had trouble with. Yes Taurus has a bad name but no the tx22 is not bad. Every company has failures, heck look at the guns that cost twice or 3 times this much that have failures. An heirloom gun no but a fun little 22 that is economical and very very reliable for a 22 and probably one of the most reliable 22 autos to come out lately. That is a yes. The question the op asks is a good one and yes it is a nice striker fired 22 that anyone should be happy with.

Taurus has tremendously more complaints against them. They stole from me, and were never able to fix any of the issues I had with them. A garbage company. No confidence in any warranty they have.

Curious, have you ever even shot or handled a tx22.

I don’t think it’ll matter it sounds like he has a personal experience with them that he’s voicing his frustration about. Not that I blame him, if his beef is legitimate, there’s good press and bad press that can be given by consumers, companies should always be aware how they treat their customers will get published to the public one way or another.

I’ve been pleased with my TX22 seems to not be picky just like my Walther PPQ 22, suppressed or unsuppressed. To me they hit a home run with it after ridding themselves of the bad contractor manufacturing the sewer pipe barrels in the beginning.

Yes it does the op asked if anyone had experience with the tx22 not if anyone had a bad day at some time in their life with the company.

It’s always interesting how one guy with a grudge gets heard over the crowd of people who report a positive experience. No one ever says maybe the problem is him.

Check the bbb. It's not just me. I guess I care about gun owners having something worth what they spend their hard earned money on.

Hell no, and not if it was the last gun on Earth. Taurus has been dead to me for years, I hope I can convince others not to run their head into a brick wall ever dealing with Taurus and their well know business model that let's the customer lose money and a lot of time/hassle/stress.
