EDC firearms, some are too big, some are too small, some are too powerful and some are not powerful enough.
In my 21 years living in the gunshine state of Florida, I've carried a 1911, a P35 Hi Power, (too big), A Beretta Jetfire .22, a Seecamp .32 acp, too small & too weak, a .357 magnum snubby, Way too powerful. Several 1911 compacts in .45 acp and 9mm parabellum, not enough rounds. A .38 spl S&W 640 snubbie, only 5 rds. Then a 9mm Sig 229, almost perfect but couldn't really like it. Finally found the pistol thats not too small, not too big, not too powerful, enough rounds to make me happy
The folks at CZ sold me a 9mm CZ 75D PCR. Fits my hand like the Hi Power, small enough to conceal with a good holster, holds 15+1 rds of hollow point bad guy demotivators, hits my club's 50 yard steel silhouette consistently.and has been flawlessly reliable with over 1500 rds downrange Another good idea is the de-cocker puts the hammer at a half cock position, making the DA pull much shorter and lighter. Note in the photo the de-cocked hammer is back about 30%. I put Tritium nite sights, thinner grips & a spring kit in it. EDC happiness!

Great choice! I get the same Hi-Power feeling with my P01.

My Path to EDC Nirvana really was not all that long. I started with a Springfield Armory GI Model, with some tweaks from my gunsmith.

That lasted about 3 years, then I decided to go smaller and lighter, so I moved to a G19. Apparently, I do not have any pictures, but y’all know what a G19 looks like. It was black.

That also lasted about 3 years and then I decided to go even smaller and lighter. So I went with a S&W Shield. That was 2017, and lasted until the Shield Plus came out. I upgraded to the Plus. Someone will have to make a pretty spectacular pistol to get me to switch again. I believe I have found The One for me.

With all of that said, I have always thought something “commander sized” would make a pretty good CC pistol. In testing that theory, and because I like Shields, I grabbed something in that category as well.

Nice classic carry gun. What is all this too powerful nonsense though?

Spot on.

A P-01 for me – it does hit the EDC sweet-spot.

A pure joy to shoot; accurate, reliable, and the decocker and chambering make it ideal for concealed carry.

Someone will have to make a pretty spectacular pistol to get me to switch again.

The only reason I have a carry rotation is because of new products that have come along over the years that keep getting better and better.

My Goldilocks turned out to be a pistol I said I would never buy a Glock 48 not as slim as a 1911 but not far off but holds 15 rounds and weighs less yep the G48 is my Goldilocks

If it works for you GREAT! My CZ75D compact is too heavy, has too small of a trigger guard and the rounded trigger is awful pinching my finger on every shot! What is perfection for one person is misery for another person... we are so lucky to have such a wide choice of firearms available so that everyone can find what works best for them.

I much prefer my XD mod 2 3.8" in .45acp or my XDs 3.3 in .45acp when I want a lighter smaller package. The whole reason I bought the CZ75D compact is because I learned how to shoot and handle pistols with a Beretta 92 INOX and really missed the decocker/safety on a carry gun. I will say my CZ75D compact is very well built... it is kind of like a really nicely made pair of quality shoes that just don't fit!

Myself I seem to shift every few years, but generally have converged on striker platforms for their consistency and reliability. My EDC is a G19, G48, or p365xl. They each have different advantages. All are reliable and good shooting. Lately I added a Galco ankle holster for my 642 for low profile environments such as the symphony, etc. The goldilocks EDC might be more than one, it is for me.

The only reason I have a carry rotation is because of new products that have come along over the years that keep getting better and better. :p
I get that, but the Shield:
  • Fits my hand as though made for it;
  • Holds 13+1 rounds;
  • Is mechanically more accurate than I am;
  • Fits my Shield holster and mag pouch that I already had.
So someone would have to beat that, and do so in a way that I wouldn't lose money in the change.

When the current market offers the following in 9mm CCW pistols:

Glock G43x/48 (w/SA 15rd mags), Sig P365/365XL, Springfield Hellcat, S&W Shield Plus for strikers it’s going to be difficult improving on those when it comes to size and capacity.

And for hammer fired it’s already hard to improve on CZ PCR/P-01.

Oh I’m not saying people should change their ccw all the time, I’m saying I started with one or two carry pistols and have a handful now. Lol

That looks like it would be a nice cool weather gun, good luck with it!

Being retired, my warm weather dress is a T-shirt and shorts. I don't want anything that will print, and that would on me no matter how I carried it.

My requirement is something that will fit in my front pocket, and still give me room to easily draw it. At this point it's a 1st gen LCP.

We are living in a golden age for concealed carry. There’s a gun for every task, every mode of carry and there’s more every year.

After several different guns over many years, the choice that works well for me is a Staccato C. It’s a single stack 9 mm in a 2011 platform. The upper is steel, the lower is polymer so it’s light enough (26 oz) to carry comfortably all day. Slim, like any 1911, very accurate and absolutely reliable.
