Something new from S&W...

Anybody hear anything about a new S&W 9mm. called the CSX? Just got an email from an LGS about this new micro compact, 10/12 round magazine which has an aluminum frame instead of with the usual polymer construction. MSRP is $599.99.
There's a couple of videos out. Breaks down the same as my Micro 9. Has the same dimensions as my Shield Plus. I'm very intrigued and want to get my hands on one. I like that it has interchangeable grip panels and a captive recoil spring.

I get it. But those calibers just won't sell in the same volume.

Maybe not in the short initial run/release but something like a multi caliber pistol will have staying power. Even the firestar was offered in 9mm, 40,and 45. Imagine if glocks were only 9mm... 1911s only 45acp...those two designs most likely would have faded out long, long ago. I am not saying 9mm should not be offered.. just give some options. Thats the whole beauty of modular.

So S&W is shocking the world... not really. Its a 9mm. The most shocking thing is Smith going back to an aluminum frame. It looks like a nice pistol though. I would rather have an aluminum frame if its not going to be steel subframe in a polymer grip. I am interested in a throwback like this CXZWK (whatever its called) assuming its durable and I can get a real trigger for it. By durable I mean 10s of thousands of rounds not 500 before breakage or recall.

Volume of sales is more of a marketing thing. They already fumbled that with no memorable name so there will be work to do paying off youtubers to get it in everyones face as some sort of ultimate boomer 1911 9mm officer model. I doubt the hipsters will go for this... maybe if they turn it into some sort of midget race gun with a tv mounted on it.... tag it with a hipster oneliner such as...."You cant 3d print perfection. Step into the next dimension of consciousness with CSX Viper". Give one to John Wick and the kids will be running to the shop.

ambi mag release might be prolematic on a pistol this size but one could always sand off one side. Looks like the controls are sunken into the frame. Dust cover on frame ilooks nice and thick. On the outside it looks like Smith did a lot of things right. Magazines are traditional and not radically bottlenecked... good stuff.

positive for shield plus lovers is they will most likely get a price drop. Thats good too.

It's not especially small, it's not especially good looking, SA only, no rails, and has a wonky name.

Lots of competition out there. It better be incredibly great like no other if they expect to have decent sales numbers.

How about some 7.62x25 or better yet 44amp or 45 win mag. 9mm is great and all but lets have some variety.

7.62x25 popularity was based on cheap foreign surplus guns and ammo. Considering that it is a longer round than even a .38 Super or 10mm, it is obvious no manufacturer thinks it is worth the trouble to tool up for. Except in China. If you live in Canada there is a Chinese copy of Sig P226 stretched for the Tok round.

If you want a .44 AMP or .45 Win Mag, Automags and Wildeys are getting back in production, if you care to pay the price.

This has been what I've been looking for for my girlfriend. Something with a safety, more weight than a polymer frame, and compact. But the Nutnfancy review has me thinking wait for the 2.0 version.

They probably wanted something smaller and Ambi as well as cheaper to manufacturer. Grip safties turn a lot of people off as well. From what I see so far it looks pretty well thought out. The trigger might just be a drop safety thing for when the pistol is hot.

Stupid name.....CSX. They should have called it Black Mamba or something else that grabs attention and is memorable. Kind of looks like a pistol Colt would try so throw a snake name on it..... The Viper Nine etc. Names are important. Do it right and the gun practically markets itself.
Colt makes a Viper 9!!! with Snake and Galloping Horse??

Automag for sure. It is exciting that they are being made again. I Didnt know Wildeys are coming back. Thats great news. Just need Grizzly and Automag IV to get picked up. Be nice if Coonan could get things going but pistols in 357sig have been a good enough substitute.

7.62x25 popular because its a wicked round that penetrates things that most handguns cant. Only reason they are not more popular is because Tokarevs are about all thats available. I know about the Norincos but they were never imported... unfortunately. To bad we dont have a Rex Zero 7.62x25. Ruger 57 should be a 7.62x25. I might even buy a glock in 7.62x25.

More 38 Supers and 10mm would be good though... maybe some 357sig and 40 as well. Some purpose built 45 supers and 460 rowlands would be nice as well (Shoot 45acp for cheap practice).

Point is... variety. The Commercial American Firearms Community is not NATO. I dont want to see everything standardized to 9mm.

I'm right handed and use the right side mag release on my Shield Plus without any problem. The size is identical to the Shield Plus. I can't work it with my right thumb due to arthritis.

Why does it need a trigger dingus safety-ish thingy if it has a manual safety? Must be for the appendix carry crowd. Maybe they should have thrown in a grip safety too, just for kicks.

I'm surprised no one has noticed the pistol that seems the most like the new S&W; the Wilson EDC X9. Certainly not an exact copy, but functionally very similar. Of course, the Wilson is $3K....

The Wilson is larger, and holds 15 rounds, but is SAO, aluminum framed and generally 1911-like, though sized for 9MM.

Baby got back.

Maybe they could design a new butt-first holster to hide that fuggly ass end

Sure looks fat..... However.... What was the last Smith that had bad ergos? Seems like they always get that right. Looks awefully flat in the front but its might just be the picture. I am not even a major S&W lover but it seems like I always buy them after picking one up. It was the main reason I was a sigma fan.

The best selling pistol in the world has a boring name, p365.

Handled one at local store. They announced they had some on 1/2/22, 10 received, two left 1/4/22.

I found it smaller than I expected but not small enough for pocket carry.
Controls reasonably accessible.
Trigger pull heavy.
Lots of slick bare aluminum between patches of stippling.

No sale.

I'd have started saving my pennies as soon as I saw this if it was DA/SA. I have no desire for a SAO conceal carry gun though. As much as I loved my P938 I never could get over the hammer always fully energized since I carry appendix.

Man, this thing is pretty ugly. I can't decide what's making it ugly, though. The trigger? The disproportionate feel in size between the grip, trigger guard, and slide? The polymer grip inserts in the aluminum frame? I dunno.

I agree there was room in the market for an SAO concealed-carry pistol that took advantage of the P365-esque semi-double stack magazine innovation. But it would need to be good-looking and have a good single-action trigger in order to succeed, and this... doesn't look like it passes on either count.

I like the concept of a micro 9 with an aluminum frame, safety, and hammer. But, happy with my P365. Not offended or triggered by the CSX, however, Kim Kardashian dimensions notwithstanding.
