Fail

Grandsons Taurus G3C failed today. Magazine button & spring fell out. Dropped the magazine. Put in service 1/19/21. Was shot very little. About 150 rounds total.

Broken mag catch or broken spring? Thats an unusual failure.

These 2 parts fell out, along View attachment 1047618 with the magazine, when the 1st shot of the day was fire

was anything broken? If not check the hole inside the magwell that the spring sits in. It may have just been some sloppy assembly. That or it got dislodge somehow by jamming a tool up the magwell... toothbrush or cleaning rod while cleaning etc.

try to come back and post your results. I probably wont be posting but I still read a lot. G3s are not fragile (G2 once available in 40). pistols so I am kind of curious whats going on.

It's an issue that happens sometimes with Taurus PT111/G2c/G3c/G3.
There are some videos on youtube that shows the very same issue. It is probably caused by the wrong length of the spring or the wrong heat treatment of the spring.
A factory replacement should solve the problem.
My Taurus G3 doesn't show that problem.

A closer look this morning shows an oval blind hole that the magazine spring sits in. Its oval towards the right side. This allow the spring to slip out of the notch. 20211227_081527.jpg
Just like a short spring would act. The loaded magazine can hit the magazine release when being inserted.

Putting the release back in from the right side & popping the spring back in place, doesn't last. Just like on YouTube.
Ordered parts, but can't fix a poor design.

The GX4 has a different magazine release spring

While you are waiting for the spare parts you could try to reverse the spring upside down to see if the situation improves.

Or call Taurus and have them fix it. Their service is greatly improved. I won a G3c at a banquet, been shooting it regularly along with my other guns and the G3c has been a perfectly reliable little gun.

The micrometer has the spring diameter the same on both ends. I reinstalled the factory part a few time. Keeps popping out after a few tries. I will compare length of old vs new springs, when parts arrive.

Never registered the warrenty in 1/19/21. Plus Taurus doesnt sent a shipping label for return, like S&W. . Taurus website said cant ship by Fed X?

Plastic guns are throw away items. Just may put in with plastic recycling. lol.:D

Taurus will let you order parts now? Or did you order the parts from a 3rd party?

In my opinion it could be that the hole, seat of the spring, is slightly too large in diameter than the spring, so there could be too much play between the spring and the hole that gives problems. As suggested by another user in the other thread, I would try to get a piece of harmonic steel wire for springs, slightly larger in diameter than the original spring, cut it slightly longer than the original spring and try if it works better.

I have a Taurus® G3C 9mm pistol I bought a year ago and I've put over 1K rounds through it with nary a hiccup. 115, 124, and 147gr; FMJ, JHP, BJHP; Blazer®, Federal®, Sierra®, and Winchester® all with zero malfunctions. I am very pleased with my firearm and highly recommend it.

I bought a G3 just to see what the series was like. 400 rounds later I'm impressed and I'm a CZ guy. The triggers different but not in a bad way. It handles 9MM Golden Saber and cheap stuff as well. I like it. G3 Taurus.JPG

The factory magazine can contact the magazine release when loading this G3C. May have caused it. Need to test fire, when it gets warmer.

Not sure I understand you on this. The magazine will always contact the mag release when loading... on any semi auto pistol. For whatever reason the spring is not holding the release in place.

Front of mag, should not?
. Side notch, yes. Holds mag in.:)
Or is this Normal? As mag moves up, it hits mag release. The angle of the mag, while being inserted, matters.

I have 2 of his older brothers, PT111 G2 and they both are flawless. They are strategically placed inside our domicile for protection purposes.
I have two of the G2C pistols that Taurus replaced my two first generation Millennium (9mm & .45ACP) pistols as part of the lawsuit inspired recall. I was miffed initially by getting two 9mm for a 9 and .45, but the G2C has been a serious and worthwhile upgrade. I keep one in the center console, and shoot the other for practice, typically 50 rounds a month, and I've had it since 2018, so probably at about 2000 rounds now. No failures of any kind despite the fact that I've not taken it down for cleaning since the initial outing when I first got it.
