Four years ago, working the bolt of this rifle felt weird (while shooting). Noticed that the bolt was cracked all the way through. Good thing; was shooting reduced cast bullet loads. Was kinda shaken up but rather yell at my friend who put the rifle together, just told him the facts. This was the third SMLE I got from him over the years and nothing is wrong with his work. So he gave me a crash course on enfield headspace and bolt fitting. Got a replacement bolt from Springfield Sporters just before they sold out. Got it "fixed" and test fired. Rifle shot the same as before but I felt twitchy shooting it; is the rifle healed:)? Then covid happened and was looking for projects. Got this enfield accurizing book. Followed directions and got a big (to me improvement). Feel ok now.
All loads are the same; 16 gr, 2400, 200 gr lyman bore rider cast. 100 yards. Left target is the baseline. Middle- bedding up to the trigger guard. Right target- bedded trigger guard and shimmed action main screw.

Ya, shooting "good" now. Long term would depend on the stock; needed to bed here, float there, light contact here, and shim there. Was kind of guessing sometimes. Anyway, stock condition changes, accuracy might go.

I don't even try to find ammo or load jacketed bullets nowadays; cannot be found or too expensive. Last brass I found was Prvi Partizan at Powder Valley. Mold is Lyman 314299. Cheaper Lee mold handles will fit most anything it you take the time to file it down. Person who sells me lead has a quiet side thing casting bullets for friends. Says it keeps him in scotch and cigars. I promised him not to sell my cast.
