>>> Does Taurus handgun production have extremely consistent quality control? :scrutiny:
I'm not - personally- familiar with guns by those two companies.

Update: recently picked up the security 9 Compact. About an inch shorter than the full size and an inch less tall. 10 RDs but you can throw a spacer on it to carry the 15 rd mags if desired. Now I have 2 guns that fit my hand well. One for bedside and one for carry.

I don't have it anymore, but I had a Ruger Security 9 compact. Great gun I thought. I got swayed by some other bright shiny thing, and sold it, but it was a really good gun. It and the Smith and Wesson SW9VE are my favorite "budget" 9mm's.

I like the Smith and Wesson EZ series too, but they're not as "budget friendly" I don't suppose.

Kahr arms.
Highly reliable.
If you like the double action trigger pull on a Colt Python, then you will like this simple, reliable and budget based platform.
CW9 is the one I have experience with.
Used K9s (all steel, match barrel) can be had for slightly more than the brand new CW series (polymer frame)
I've never had a failure in a Kahr that was the guns fault in about 10,000 rounds in 10 years.
Magazines are expensive, at msrp 40$

I have several SAR guns, all have been totally problem free. The first one I got was a K2 45, which is basically an enlarged CZ-75 with 14+1 capacity. The next one was a SAR B6, that as like $275 shipped and transferred. I liked it, but the next one is my favorite, the CM9 (Combat Master) G2, which is a Tanfoglio sort of polymer Witness clone, takes most CZ-75 mags, and is TDA. I have a laser on mine and it's almost impossible to miss at any sane range. Total cost was $250+ transfer. Great grip(some people don't like it much, I would love to have it on almost every gun I own, if that was possible), and I also have the SAR sr38 S+W 586 semi clone. Nice gun, lock up isn't great, but it shoots fine, and is more accurate than I am.

Avoid anything made by Taurus, even if the gun works well, if it doesn't, you're screwed as customer service is worse than bad.

If needing a budget gun buy a used one from a better company.

It seems that a common problem with the Taurus Millennium G2 PT111, G2c and G3c pistols is that they lose their mag catch / mag release button

I bought a Taurus G3 approx. a year ago. It fed @ 200 rounds of brass FMJ's fine...then I tried JHP's to function test with various carry loads. It would fail to feed at least five rounds per magazine...the round would slam into the feedramp and refuse to chamber.

I tried 147gr. HST, 115gr. Critical Defense, 115gr. Winchester, 124gr. Gold Dot...didn't matter. I thought, "It just needs to be broken in", so I put another 300 rounds of FMJ though it (and this was when 9mm was @$32/50). I put another 200 rounds of the aforementioned JHP's (when they were $70/50), and the failure rate had dropped to three rounds per magazine. At that point I had spent more $$$ in ammunition trying to get the gun to work than I had paid for the gun itself, and decided to divest myself of that demon. I wish I'd have just handed a stranger $200 and punched myself in the tender spot rather than buy that gun.

I sold it and gave full disclosure to the buyer, who seemed to not care...the guy must have been a masochist.

I had 3 Taurus PT111 G2's. I still have two of them, one I sold, unfired. The first one has a ton of rounds through it with one single jam after the very first shot I made with it. I upgraded the recoil assembly and the sights. Great little gun. The other one has about 500 rounds through it, and the only mod is a steel recoil assmembly. That one never has missed a beat.

They are both good firearms. I like SAR, especially because their firearms are typically all metal. I like Taurus, mainly because there is so much hate out there for it, but I've had good luck with them. If you need to adjust sights, I'd go with the Taurus, but if you don't typically need to adjust sights and like some weight (assuming SAR is all metal), go with the SAR.. Excellent firearms and while they may be priced liter than others, the quality is there.

I don't know all of the SAR models. I've owned two of their pistol, polymer CZ75 compact clones. Both were completely reliable with good sights and triggers. I traded the first one for more than it was worth, and immediately replaced it with another. I would be quite willing to use it for a HD gun or largish CC.

I owned a Taurus G2C. It gave me zero problems. I eventually traded it only because it was so nearly identical to my Glock 26, and I preferred the Glock trigger.

Sounds like it's probably win-win.

The $30.00 SAR rebate is over :(

That puts the SAR9 up around $260+ S&H

I would still take a SAR9 for $260.00 over a G3c for $230.00

Yes, but there are these for $23:
Kahr® K9, P9, & E9 9mm (7) Rd - Blue Steel - ProMag Industries

With a couple experiences with ProMag gone bad, I've written off the entire brand.
I know this may be obtuse of me; I'm sure they make some products that work as good as OEM...
But screw me once, get a pass, screw me twice and.....goodbye.

For carry purposes I only trust OEM mags, with the exception of Magpul (ARs) and MecGar (in SIGs)

Oh, OK
nevermind,
:uhoh:

Two budget 9's I bought recently. A Taurus G3 and a S&W SD9VE. The G3 shot very well roght out of the box. The S&W cost me a $30.00 Apex trigger job but well worth it. Although I'm joined at the hip with CZ's, I would have no qualms about carrying either of these two. Both were in $300..00 range. G3 Taurus.JPG S&W 9SDV.JPG
