Accidental range discharge

Probably shouldn’t bring a loaded firearm to a gun range unless it’s in a holster on you, shouldn’t have ammunition in a safe area, point a loaded gun at your hand and others, then pull the trigger.

It’s not complacency it’s ignorance of basic gun safety or out right ignoring them altogether.

It’s not like he just missed one of the above rules, to do what he did, he had to disobey ALL of them at the same time.

Hopefully they are both OK and learned a lifetime lesson.

Then again, maybe I am just being mean to someone who can’t read. This is the sign they were standing next to, one on either side. Maybe the gunsmith location and services sign should be replaced with a larger, “Don’t shoot yourself” sign…

That was painful to watch. He had his hand partially over the muzzle, hurt himself to some degree, and never even checked on the lady he shot. I understand how a shocking moment can make people freeze up but this guy was in LaLa land, caused an injury and did not tend to anybody but himself.

If I were a Darwinist (I'm not), I would say we have some natural selection at work here.

But seriously, the TV station/media outlet story stating that "the gun" accidentally discharged illustrates the dangerous mentality of the media concerning guns: "A man shot himself and injured a woman after his firearm accidentally discharged ..."

That gun didn't accidentally do anything. It's akin to the term "gun violence" as if the gun is the perp.

Same thing with them letting Baldwin get away with his obvious lie “I didn’t pull the trigger”.

I suppose being an idiot, is a side effect of being so anti gun you don’t even know how they function. Gives them magical powers that brings them to life and act on their own will…

You know the kind of stuff that was fiction back in the 1980’s..

It was so stupid Stephen King, writer and director called it a “moron movie”.

Maybe they should release it again as it seems we have more morons available now.

When I worked the counter st the local indoor range I had exactly three “unloaded” guns pointed at me by customers. When I cleared their guns a live round popped out. Their comment every time was, “I thought that was unloaded”. Its a good thing my life and safety were not dependent on their thoughts. Stay vigilant my friends.

At the former public range I used to go to, the amount of bullet holes, grazes, etc you see on the ceiling, walls, floor, doors, etc are an indicator of the amount of terrible firearm handlers/shooters that are out there.

One time, a lady had a target hanging only 3-5 yds out. I was in the lane next to her. Huge target, 24"x 30" at least. First few shots missed paper, and another hitting the rail system (not the metal hanger, but the damn rail above that)
Piece of copper jacket stuck in my forehead above my eyebrow above my glasses, and another area where blood was drawn also from my forearm.
The amount of blood made the incident look 20x worse than it actually was.....the lady was so unfamiliar with firearms she thought I was shot and possibly was dying and was hit by a bullet..... I felt very overwhelmed just for her actually, being so new and causing injury to me. Funny how the general people out there think that guns KILL and nothing in between.

The injuries didn't require any medical attention other than toilet paper from the bathroom and hydrogen peroxide and bandages when I got home.

Any time you are around strangers or even people you are familiar with and firearms, you can be at risk. How much risk depends on how well these people follow the basic rules....and in my case, their ability to hit a gigantic target at 3 yds......literally, the broad side of a barn at 20 yds... unable. If you can't hit your target, then Knowing your target and beyond isn't met if you're such a bad shot your bullet is going in a different direction.

I loved the movie when it was new, and much of kings work The movie had ACDC for the entire soundtrack and was filmed in an area I grew up frequenting. As a matter of fact it was the shooting gallery on the Carolina beach boardwalk, 20 minutes from the bridge in maximum overdrive that I shot my first gun.

I've since watched a lot of my childhood favorite movies with my kids. Almost all have lost a lot over the years. Lol. Some are just shockingly bad now. Maximum overdrive is one of the later. Lol. Despite being maybe the only film King himself directed, the story was altered too much.

I had an ND once. When I was 8 or 10 or so, I had my red rider which was a stupidly weak bb gun (still have it) (and both eyes) One could watch the bb rainbow to the target. Worn out I guess. Lol. But I also collected atari bought at yardsales and such. (They were slightly outdated at that time so maybe late in Nintendo 1 reign). I traded a cousin a deluxe Atari for a co2 pellet gun that favored a Python. Well when I got home I asked for forgiveness from mom (because permission was never going to happen). She got mad but dad came home from work that night and during my speech on his front porch about how I could learn safe gun handling my thumb slipped off the hammer during a decock and I shot his vinyl porch. I KNEW I'd blown my only shot at having a decent arm until I was 16 and on my own. Lol. For whatever reason dad talked mom into letting me keep it. Busted my @×& first of course. But I saw it as a win.

I learned more from that one pellet gun and ND than any of my guns since. Scared the crap out of me, despite the fact I did at least point it down away from anyone. Over 30 years later I remember that terror, flushed face, temperature drop and raised hair on my body from that little pistol going off. Ive totaled many cars and race bikes and atv, broken 30 or so bones, many stitches etc etc... but if I ever went into shock it was that ND. Silly as that may sound.

I also learned that one had to pitch square bales all dang summer and work tobacco all fall to afford pellets and c02 canisters. Lol. Didn't take long to trade for a pump up model that took BB or pellets.

I can't imagine what the people in all these videos felt having caused real damage or injury by accident or plain stupidity. The little girl with the full auto gun. The one video where the idiot is cleaning his gun and shoots the other guy square in the chest... hunting with Cheney.... etc etc.

I saw an interesting article cautioning police and trainers not to use the term "negligent discharge" because negligence has a specific legal meaning that can open up all sorts of liability claims.

I wonder if they stopped at the DQ on the way to the ER?
Too soon?

Surely shooting a hole in your hand and the tummy of your woman friend is worth a large size Blizzard for both you would think. They have not missed any meals.

Every time I go to a range I see lack of muzzle discipline. But, just consider what goes on in the field hunting! People scoping one another rather than purchasing binoculars, muzzles pointing all over, climbing trees and stands with loaded rifles, deer hunters shooting squirrel hunters thinking they are deer, squirrel hunters shooting deer hunters out of their stands thinking they are squirrels. And some hunters do not like to wear orange!!! My God man, I want an orange strobe light on my head!

And off subject slightly but concurrent with another thread, at least one of the "faulty" 700 trigger "accidents" was the result of a fellow scoping a neighbor child from his bedroom window. So negligent antics, as amazing as some are, are not limited to the range only, I could only wish they were.

I was sitting on ledge over looking a long, narrow valley, in Colorado. Elk season, I have an orange stocking cap and a Full orange set of coveralls. I catch a glint in my binoculars. I look across the valley, on the top of the ridge, an azz is leaned against a tree, with his scope on me. He is not wearing orange.

I flip him a bird. He doesn't move.
I crawl behind the log I am on. I shoulder my rifle and scope him. He doesn't move.
I flip him off, again and make an exaggerated motion of taking off the safety.
He turns and runs.

4 days later, we are headed home. Stopped in Cortez at LGS. Walked in and azz is telling a group of at the 5 counter about somebody in full orange suit, setting down his binoculars, flipping him off and pointing rifle at him. I lost it. My buddy gets me out of the store, while other buddy tells the entire group what really happened.

He told me, later, the group told him they WOULD have shot him. Store owner told him to leave and never come back.

My buddy told him, if he hadn't run, about 5 secs later he would have had a 180 gr headache. He left the store to much chastisement.

I have seen some stupidity on public ranges and left. That azz had me the maddest I have ever been.
