Pictures of non game animals

Over the years my wife and I have made many trips to the Smoky Mt NP and I've collected a few photos. I walked into this field to get a little closer to a buck. My wife stayed in the car. You aren't supposed to get within 50 yards of animals, and I was still well over 100 yards away from the one I was trying to get a better shot of when I heard my wife call out to me.

I turned around to see a doe being chased by 6 or 7 bucks. They were running directly at me through the high brush. When they got about 25-30 yards from me they all stopped and milled around for a few seconds, then left. I had deer running by me within just feet a few seconds after snapping this photo. I never did get a shot of the one I was initially trying to get a photo of.

Cades Cove is a great place to see wildlife! Most people want to see bears in the cove, but there are lots of nice whitetails. Thanks for sharing the picture and story.

Rough Greensnake.
Generally arboreal and eat insects. I've seen a few over the years in this area but not many. That one was just sitting in the middle of the trail I was walking down.
It really stuck out in the dry leaves.
One of my earliest memories is out planting green fields with my dad and one was near a kudzu patch and little green snakes were everywhere. When we home for lunch I had one hanging from each earlobe, I thought it was hilarious, my mother not so much.

Armadillos are supposed to be non-game animals, but people hunt them with cars all the time.
As a teenager growing up on a cattle farm about twice a year me and my brother would load up with dad driving the truck and ride around the pastures at night and shoot armadillos for hours. They’ve killed more cattle than you can imagine. It probably wasn’t legal, I never cared to ask.

I can't comment on the legality. All the states have different laws. That being said, I never heard anybody refer to them as a game animal. I have heard they are pretty good in chili. I have a lot of experience with them in Louisiana. Interesting animals, but we don't have them here.
