Just bought this GP100 grip from Ruger and the color of the wood panels don’t match. Think I should return them?

Thanks,

With stabilized wood laminates, it's always a crapshoot whether the dark or light layer will predominate. These could have been matched better, but you only see one side at a time.

I would do a little research first, look to see what colors they offer and see if those match up to the options available. its possible they mis packaged two different types of stained wood. I.e.. Cherry, and dark cherry or two different woods. If the wood is different there cann be slight differences in finished staining if the wood grains are not from the same block. Or it could be they just gave you one of two different stained options.

Thats deffinatly a big difference in the appearance from one side to the other. I would be returning those. Wood is easy to sand out and refinish in small pieces. but as far as gun grips and stocks, i have come across the largest problem with refinishing wood for firearms. When you sand out all the current clear and stytain you end up taking too much of the actual material away, and this ultimatly ends up making the pieces too cmall to fit back properly.

Why dont you just find a local wood worker and have a set made. Small pieces like this are verry easy and fairly cheap to make.

Another +1 for ching's

If you think you should now and can, do it.

If you don’t, as soon as your window to return them closes, you will wish forever that you did…

I bought a GP100 around 30 years ago. Your post made me get it out and check the grip panels to see if they match. I had never really thought about it before now.

If you put them on the gun, you won't be able to see both sides at once.

That was my thoughts too, but someone beat me to it. I'd put them on the gun and go with it.

I would contact Ruger as well as order a set of walnut from Altamont because they look great with stainless! Looks like you got the compact grips and if so, the SP101 size inserts fit it.

I think you’ll really like the grips, both for comfort and aesthetics. It’s making me want to get a 7 shot with 2.5 inch barrel.

Funny thing with my Ruger GP100's grip panels is that they did match pretty closely when I bought it new in the early 90s.

However, the right grip panel has darkened considerably from my hand oils over the years.

So, if'n you're right handed @JCooperfan1911, those grip panels might match some day in the future if you handle the gun enough. :D
