What revolver do you use for home defense?

Bedroom gun: Taurus 450 revolver, titanium blue in 45LC, with ported barrel, ribbed grips. An absolute boomer with very little perceived recoil. I've told people before there is almost no recoil; my two co-workers, one an Army sniper, the other a Air Force Military Police sergeant didn't believe me until they tried the gun. Very reduced muzzle rise and very accurate at 21 feet.

if you have never fired one, find one and try it. They come up for auction four or five times a year on Gun Broker.

All my revolvers live in the safe, but if I was going to use one for anything, it would be my S&W M1917 45ACP revolver. Not sure how to mount a light to it, but I'm sure it would look ridorkulous.

I only have hunting revolvers, a 6" Python and a 7.5" Superblackhawk.
Had a 4" 629 that was carry and HD for a few years.
Decided a 6 shooter wasn't the best choice for me.
Went auto dang near 30 yrs ago.

Nightstand, governor with Federal 410 buck

Cc, j frame

1980s Smith 686 with the "M" loaded with .38 special Remington FBI loads.

My nightstand revolver (GP100 or LCRX .38) has been replaced with a 15 round security 9 with a stream light on it. I love revolvers, but, these days it seems they have been relegated to square range work, except I will carry the LCR .22wmr or LCRX .38 in a coat pocket in the winter time since it is hard to get to the primary with a heavy coat on.

The thread was home defense, not CC. But as we speak I just came back from the Walmart and a few other stops and I am CC a Ruger LCR .357 with speed loader. It is one of my favorite CC weapons. Todays load out:

I dont want to vere too far off topic, but one quick question,

So for those of you that use a revolver for CC, where and how does the carry of the loaded speed loaders work with thier excessive bulky thickness. I mean its not like a thin wallet or a magazine? is this just some giant bulge in your fron pocket?

I think you are exaggerating with the "giant bulge" and "excessive bulky thickness" for effect perhaps.



And neither take up nearly as much room on a night stand as a Mossberg pump! Or under the pillow .

No exagerations intended, I dont own any revolvers except for my fathere heritage .22lr, and I just recieved it in Sept of last year, and no speed loaders. I'm curious as my questions arise from the pictures i see of speed loaders and my understanding that they are not far off from the thickness of the cylinder for which it is loading.

As to your pic you posted, I see there is not that large of a difference in the thickness Vs. a double stack mag, however it does appera to be a bit winder, and i'm picturing this loader in my pocket, and it (to me) seem like it would be a bit bulky feeling. the mags I carry have a extra slot for two in the belly band I use most often, as it holds the firearm tighter to my body. ( when I Conceal carry). And my owb holster has a single space for an extra mag. nothing is in my pocket.

So I was more trying to grasp at the mindset of one who carrys a revolver and what they do with the loaded speed loader. if its in a pocket or loop on the holster thats a different story, but no one has mentioned where these are carried. All I heard most say is they they have loaded speed loaders with them.

My assumption was its just placed in the pocket of the pants, I may be off on this assumption tho.

I never carry a speed loader. Five or six shots is enough for me.

I usually carry a couple of full moon clips in a pocket. Seems to work.

It was a good question.

3" SP101. Backup to the laser sighted G43. In other rooms there "might be" A 442, A 15-3, A 624.

A small speedloader pouch on the belt works. It’s easily concealed with an untucked shirt. Even If it’s in view, very few people would know that it’s a speedloader.

I keep a S&W model 15 with a 4 inch barrel and HOGUE grips, loaded as a spare in the second bedroom. I may not look at it for a year, but I try to take it to the range at least once a year, more often, if I can. I use FEDERAL HST +P .38 Special ammo in the gun and DOUBLE TAP 110 grain jhp in the speedloader with it. It was a law enforcement trade in and looks bad on the surface from scratches, but shoots well.

I always keep a SW Model 65 handy at home. That's in addition to whatever handgun I've been carrying that day.

I have plenty of semi-autos to choose from but my wife loves her older 3" Taurus Model 85 and keeps it ready to go.

I don't.
A revolver (any handgun) is what you carry when you're out walking around, and need to conceal the fact you have a weapon.
Or as they say in Infantry "A handgun, is what you use to fight your way back to the rifle, you never should have laid down in the first place".

At home, I have an AR as a bedside gun.
This style of long gun shoots a much more effective round, is more accurate at dispensing them, and holds more of them.
This one, being a 10.3" SBR is rather small, so it doesn't restrict my movement within the home.
It's equipped with a light for use in the dark, and a red dot sight for the fastest possible target acquisition.

Now, I do have a handgun on my nightstand, as does the wife.
God forbid I be surprised so badly I find myself reaching over to grab it, but I could theoretically fight... from the bed itself.
However, my home defense gun is an SBR.
I have only to swing my feet to the floor, and reach past the nightstand to grab it's pistol grip, as it rests muzzle down just past the nightstand.
I can rack the charging handle as I bring it up, so it's only 2 or 3 seconds slower then going for the handgun.

The wife's "long gun" of sorts, is a 9mm AR pistol, but it stays under the bed in it's case as she isn't as well trained with it yet.
I spent 28 years carrying an AR type rifle in the Army so it's second nature to me.
I'm more comfortable with it than anything I own.
Her HD revolver is a Taurus 85 loaded with HPSWC.

There are speed loader carriers that place it on the belt with half the bullets on one side of the belt, and half on the other, so bulge is minimized.

Upstairs in the nightstand 1911. Downstairs in the computer desk Rossi .38 snub.

I think for edc I left off the speed loaders 15 years ago and opt for speed strips.

I have many set up with different loads (jhp, hardcast, etc) depending on what I'm doing.

They sit very light and flat in a pocket. You can practice the reload at home with snap caps, as well as during shooting practice.

They're quite fast once you get it. I also practice dumping empties and getting two rounds back in. This is VERY fast, and by now I can do it with muscle memory.

I like how you think. For me, it is one of these.

As for edc, I dress so I can carry what I want to carry.
