I'm looking to replace my wife's current gun. She has now Taurus PT809.
She wants the same size with about 15-17 rounds magazine, but a full metal frame. Preferably not very expensive. Any suggestions will be welcome.

Beretta M9

If she finds that too bulky, Beretta makes the same gun in the "compact" model.
I have Beretta 92X, she said it is too big. Compact has only 10 rounds. Price around $700

Ummm...no need to go farther than your avatar and screen name!

Maybe a CZ PCR just to lighten things up just a bit, but if she wants heft P01.

And you mention "full metal frame" so CZ75 would fit the bill.

I don't think you are going to find a metal-frame 9mm, in the capacity you specified, that is signifiantly less "too big."

What is the reason for the metal frame?

If $700 is too expensive, you are drastically limiting choices.

Consider the Smith and Wesson 380 Shield EZ. I have one. High quality. Affordable. Smaller size (single-stack magazine). Easy to operate. Ballistic performance with quality ammo is almost as good as 9mm.

Metal frame to reduce recoil. She had "cold shoulder" on both sides and it makes a huge difference for handling light gun's recoil

It sounds like your wife is a shooter, correct? Not just a go to the range occasionally and carry infrequently.

If my assumption is correct. There is no way I would consider a 380, I think you are on the right road. There are ways to make 9mm easy to shoot for recoil adverse persons and it'll be a lot cheaper to shoot.

Another gun to consider would be a SAR K12 Sport, simply a CZ Shadow clone. At 42+ ounces it'll soak up a 9mm recoil. It takes Tangfolio internals so tuning the pistol is easy.

First off be sure to let your wife choose "her gun"!

I recently stopped by a "LGS" (FFL) to pick up an AR lower!

My wife was with me and wanted to check out a really "cute" pistol. The Canik TP9SF Elite really blew her skirt up. My daughter was carrying my Sig P239 and I really wanted it back! So, I called her to meet up with us at the LGS! After about an hour of "fondling" the Canik in an out of the way storage room, they both decided on new guns! The two were less than $800 OTD!

The key take aways are get "the lady" to the "ballpark" but let her pick the seats. If at all possible, pick a time when the place isn't wall to wall "testosterone". Let her check out the features at her own pace with just enough supervision. You'll thank me later.

I would look no further than CZ. Their line of CZ 9's would cover her want's. Yes, a 75, P-01, or PCR. The gun will last a lifetime and then some so I would figure that in as far as cost.

We are planning to go next week on the range to try some guns, unfortunately, our range don' have a big selection. Will see how it goes.Thank you everyone for your input.

I hate to sound like a broken record, but if they have a Shield at y'all's range, I suggest trying it out. It's not metal, but the Shields I have really have shot like bigger pistols. And the Shield Plus does have a 13+1 mag (if allowed in IL). And you could consider one of the 4" barrel models from the Performance Center, which would help tame recoil just a little more.
