Nice work. What do you use to dip dye? Meaning, did you make a container of some sort? Like out of PVC, etc.

Have you listed it yet. Just out of curiosity I went to that website and scrolled thru 10 pages without turning it up. I was surprised at how cheaply nice looking holsters are sold there. I wonder about their country of origin and leather quality too.

I made containers out of 6" PVC pipe.

I did. There's a link to my store in my signature. I have to wonder about some of them too. There's a guy in the Carolinas, his shop is called Skillet Creek. He does fantastic work and I don't know how he does it so cheap. I can't compete.

I have one of Craig's holsters. Yes, he does use quality leather.

Dave

It was a joke.

I've been getting hides from Wickett & Craig.

I haven't ever tried their leather although I have read that it is really good. I got in the habit of buying everything I use from SD Trading Co. in Lubbock, TX and all he sells is Herman's Oak which I really like. I live close enough that I usually drive over and pick the leather I want but once in awhile I will mail order from him and always get good stuff. Truthfully I haven't made a thing in the last couple of years but that is going to change. I have a GG daughter with her 14th birthday coming up and I plan on on presenting her a name belt with turquoise fittings. I recently checked some of the places that offer custom western belts and was simply floored by how much the prices are now compared to what I was charging back in the 60's.

Thanks!

Wickett & Craig is pretty good. I just started the last of my hides from them so I guess I need to order some more. I still have 90% of a drum-dyed hide but don't really like using it. I think it would be easy to make do with whatever Tandy sells if you're able to pick through them first. I've gotten some good stuff from them but also some flea-bitten rags. Shortly before his death, Chuck Burrows recommended RJF. I have yet to try them but that's a stellar endorsement.

Thank you! He was a huge influence. I look to his work for inspiration more than any other. I was never able to order any of his work before he passed but I have been able to put together a small collection since. I've got a beaded holster and belt pouch that he made on the way as we speak.

Most Excellent! I really like the color and the stamping. Your pricing is spot on and your work looks fantastic.

I buy most of my leather form Tandy because I can go in the store and look at it first. Since they know me they are nice enough to always find me a good hide.

Love the flap, and the way you made the belt loop. I'm now working on my first shooting bag using Buffalo. I don't recommend it. Too soft to gouge for a corner cut which drove me nuts.

Thanks guys!

Working with soft leather is definitely a challenge. Sometime last year I tried to machine stitch a suede sandbag and found out real quick how easy that ain't! Right now I'm dealing with the challenge of attaching beaded deerskin to vegtan cowhide without it looking like crap. Think I've got a solid plan. ;)
