I have spent the last month cruising shops in Florida. I've been hiding out from Kansas winter by hunting for ammo in other states, mostly Florida. I'm sorry to report the result is dismal. Visited some shops in Tampa today.....OUCH!!. Found 17HMR is only one store. They had Hornady 17gr V-Max, Norma 17gr, and CCI 17gr. Good news right? I discovered why they still had it on the shelf. With tax they charged $42.50 per 50. In another store, Browning 380 is marked $69.99 + tax; not long ago I paid $25. I did find some 17HMR at a Walmart for $17.50 and bought all 4 boxes. The clerk said it is rare to have it at all. Still too high, but beats $42.50. I did find, in two stores, a large stash of Norma Tac-22 for $9.99 per 50. Lats time I bought it, the price was just over $3. But, they had lots of it and I'm betting the price will come down. The Tac-22 shoots decent in two of my rifles and runs smoothly in my wife's pistol. Thought you guys would want to know.

.. posted this in the random photo thread.
Scheels had been out of .410 for quite some time ... glad I don't need any $10+ shells

Thousands of cases of ammo at online retailers is just sitting there at terribly high prices. It trickles out. Not selling fast at all. Prices are not falling and have actually inched up recently. I believe the system is broken and the old rules of supply and demand no longer apply to ammo. I also believe that double and triple ammo prices are no accident.

Ammunition availability in Lawton, OK has improved dramatically. Yesterday i visited the Atwoods store to buy gloves and browsed around.

Was surprised to find the ammunition shelves full. There is a very good selection of 22 LR, .223, and .308 Winchester. Aguila .22 LR is priced at $18.99 per 250 round box, twice the pre-panic price. 9mm was plentiful. Winchester white box 5.56mm M855 was priced at $11.99, .308 Winchester FMJ at $24.99 and Norma 150 grain soft point at $25.99.

Am I reading your post correct? My math says that pre-pan 22LR price was $9.50/ 250 rds or, approximately $3.80/100 rds ?

In any event those prices look about ''normal'' these days here these parts

I bet you stopped at Shooters World didn't yea? They are selling 25 rd boxes of WWB target loads for $60. Id check out Empire Pawn and Grey Wolf Armory in Wesley Chapel/LoL areas

I disagree. It will take a while for the supply and demand curves to adjust, but there is still a lot of demand and a shortage of supply, both of which serve to increase prices. I do agree that double and triple prices are no accident, but that's the market. When people stop buying what they can find at the inflated prices, prices will begin to drop. In time we'll reach a new equilibrium. It may be higher than in the past due to higher material and transportation costs, but it will fall back from current highs. The system isn't broken.

Another factor in supply, is that as the cost of money increases going forward, holders of that high priced inventory should be motivated to move that inventory out and free up their dollars. So rising interest rates could have a positive impact on the ammunition supply and drive down the price to move it off their books.

The hardware store in Plymouth, Indiana has a massive amount of ammo at reasonable prices. Their shelves are jammed full. They had probably 200 boxes of 9mm a few weeks ago for example

They also have a lot of obscure stuff. .303 Savage, .218 Bee. Weatherby rounds. .416.

SG Ammo in Oklahoma has been my website to shop for 'ordinary stuff'. Up until the current 'crisis', they have been amply supplied and less costly than most.
I've been watching and they have be hit with the 'scarce and expensive' condition just like everybody else.
Today they seem to have a wider selection of ammo available. Not remarkable inexpensive, but like everyone else 'inexpensive' is a relative word. To me the wider selection suggests an upturn in the situation. Perhaps a long range upturn, but it is encouraging.

You guessed it. SW was the source of the over-the-top prices. I had Empire Pawn on my list of places to go, but ran out of time. SW has a lot of other products in stock so may be worth a visit. Heading back to Kansas on Sunday; leaving the beaches behind:(

Actually living in Florida as I do all of my gun shop cruising is done here. Not ordinarily in the South Florida area though. Ammo is slowly beginning to reappear here. The Gainesville Bas Pro even had CCI Standard Velocity 22lr last weekend. Prices are slowly beginning to come down as well though I rather doubt they'll ever quite get back to 2019 prices. As others have noted there is still a fair amount of demand out there so when decent cheap ammo comes along it's not there long either.

Plenty of shops and gun show dealers with ammo they bought at Panic prices in 2020&21 wanting to at least get their money back out of it so there are places that haven't dropped their prices much, if at all. Eventually they're going to have to eat a partial loss and lower their prices as fresh not-quite-as-costly ammo comes in.

Things are getting better - just slowly. I don't think they'll ever go all the way back to 2019 though.

i've got cartons of 500 rounds of Western .22 LR marked at $18.99. Not sure when they were bought.
Until recently I had a couple of cartons of old Remingtons from the original Dick’s in Binghamton NY bought on sale there, marked $8.99. Well, that was from about 40 years ago. lol

AiM Surplus’s prices on center fire ammo has started to approach past prices on certain items. Shipping costs will add to it of course, but probably still better than what’s available in stores, assuming they even have any.

In my neck of the woods gun shops are few and far between, and were charging pandemic prices many years prior (excepting the occasional sale). I check online most days, and eventhough I see more ebb and flow regarding availability, prices haven't budged downward much. From what I read here and on other forums, enough people are buying less but still buying at inflated prices. The demand out there might be a little less, but it's still there, so the prices may be a little less but still up there.

Yea I pretty much refuse to buy from them because of how high they are. $30 for a 50rd box of Aquila .22LR. They have a good selection and an indoor 100 yard range. They do have 3 stores in Florida, there's also Shoot Straight which has about a dozen stores in the state. Do most of my buying from Empire since it's a 2 minute car ride from my job. There's a few Henry Rifles I've wanted and Shoot Straight is the only place in the area that keeps a decent selection of them.

Cabela’s (Hazelwood, MO) and Rural King (Warrenton, MO) has tons of ammo - approaching pre-pandemic inventory on most popular calibers. As some may guess, Cabela’s was generally priced at the “no, not yet” price points but Rural King prices were very buyable (their only kicker was the sales tax rate - OUCH!). Anyway, tons of ammo inventory beginning to give shooters some comfort with supply levels but most pricing still raising eyebrows.

I did go into a Rural King and found a large stash of Norma Tac-22. Priced at $9.99 per 50 is about 3X pre-commie flu prices. I paid $3.00 3-4 years ago.

They all have that huge pile of Norma .22. I was recently on their site and the selection was looking good. Lots of 9mm for $15 a box and saw 12ga and 20 ga target loads for 6.50 a box.

And today was a good ammo day for me. Coworker needes to make an hour and a half drive to trade someone a rifle for a rifle. We stopped at Jerrys Gun and Pawn in Ocala. They had a nice pile of 8mm Mauser. Not priced so I asked. Said $20 a box and it was S&B FMJ, then he was like " Its Saturday, $15 a box." So I bought 6 boxes for $90, kinda wish I bought more. Stopped in at my local Wal-Mart they had a nice pile of Federal Automatch .22LR for $22 some 525 boxes of Golden Bullet for $40. And the counter guy told me they had gotten in 25 of the 100rd boxes of Federal 12ga target loads but it all went quickly

There are four "bricks" of the old Winchester Wildcat LRN .22LR in a sealed container that I bought about 22 years ago for $9.99 each. I use that "price per round" to evaluate the current prices and quantities.

Academy in Smyrna tn was well stocked with ammo in most popular calibers at fair prices all things considered, had a good bit of reloading gear including dies, and a decent stock of bullets. Not many rifles, but lots of handguns and priced well. No powder or primers to be had. Did see 4 calibers of shotshells, which is unusual, and no 357 of any kind.

The guy I talked to said rifles don’t sit long and pistols move constantly. Ammo comes in regularly and moves quickly but right now the supply seems to be ahead of the demand.

Fremont, Nebraska. Not sure what store or what prices, as my cousin sent me the pic. Looks stuffed, but might be pretty pricey and that's why? Nice to see full shelves though. received_970960000519431.jpeg
