Do you load enough of a single caliber to justify that additional expense. I change my preference and interests to often. Last 2 years was 9mm this year is 38/357. To couple that I'm loading 5 or 6 cases in a ladder and changing the load for the next batch. Do you have dialed loads that you need to mass replicate? These presses are ideal for guys that shoot weekly matches.
that’s true, My shooting matches days are over until I become one of those old timers. Or buy some land in the country type of situation.

The SDB is a good little machine...just keep in mind, it uses proprietary dies. If you've already got a heavy investment in dies, the 550 or 750 is a better deal depending on whether you want auto indexing or not...and the extra station in the 750.
thanks! I have tons of dies, I buy dies for guns I don’t even have. Kidda a strange hobby. If it’s on sale I’ll usually buy it.

I might buy the 750 and put it away

The SDB take some time to get use to if your use to a single stage. One: your pulls must have a purpose. In a single stage, like in sizing or seating, I pull the lever and check and give a twist to the case, pull again. In the progressive, you pull and trust your setup. The setup takes a really long time and attention, but once your get yo groove on… it’s cranking 100 in ZERO time

Time is what your buying, and I push my table out in the driveway and watch the kids play. Most parents are inside but I'm instantly available just squishing brass.

Lol video is pretty funny. I watched it because I was thinking what 10 reasons could he possibly have not to buy a Dillon. I've got a 650xl and a 750xl. They are awesome and I actually got mad the first week that I had my Dillon. I was pretty angry that I had spent so many hours over the years reloading on my single stage press. If I hustled I could load about 100 rounds in an hour. And I was tired of loading and needed a break. I timed it and I can load the same 100 rounds in 10 mins on the 650xl with out even trying. Its no big deal to load 1k rounds non stop. That guy probably did 50 or so while shooting that video and talking to the camera.

Oh I started with a single stage Lyman a long time ago. I bought my 650xl about 5 years ago. Picked up the 750xl a couple years ago. I leave one setup for large primer and the other setup for small primer. I diffentily didn't start out of the gate with a progressive press much less two of them. Once you have a stack of dies and once you get several tool heads setup for different calibers you start wanting more presses lol. I still use my single stage for a few things.

There is an app you can download that will help cross reference the conversion kit parts you have and tells you what else you can reload with what you have, and what you need to get.

http://www.nfatoys.com/dillon/

it is made for a 650 but the same info can be used with a 550.

Just something to keep in mind that the cost of the press is just a starting point. Which it's np at all to add on as you go to cut down on the cost of entry. You can diffentily start loading with the press, dies and a conversion kit. But you will end up with a case feeder, a bullet tray, a stand, ect, ect. Just realistically you will easily double the price of the press once you add on common parts and accessories. You don't have to at the start, but you will want to eventually. Just look at pictures of them. You will be hard pressed to find any that don't have these common parts. I don't think I've ever seen anyone running a Dillon 650 or higher with out a case feeder for example. To get the most out of them there really is several things you will need to add to the basic press.

Yes. The 650 was designed to be run with a brass feeder. Without one, station 1 not in a convenient place to hand feed. Can be done but pita.

I highly recommend a case feeder. Well at least for me as there is no way I'm going to feed cases by hand.
Personally, I don't like the stand or bullet tray. I do highly recommend a bullet feeder.

I’m envious!!!

I think I have 5 tool plates, but only 3 powder drops.

I wanna be where you are soon.

I find a nice mediation in feeding cases and bullets. Very Calming, until all heck breakers loose. I lost 3 primers Sunday , and I found them Last night!!!!

Ya gotta love all these “quick questions” from the OP - threads which usually go on for days and days and dozens and dozens of posts. Nothing “quick” about it at all! Just ask your question already! ;)
.

Should I go ahead and get the 750XL old stock with the conversion kit including for $695?
