We have a thread on What was the last knife you bought, but I've apparently been bitten by the Knife Bug, so I want to know: What knife do you plan to buy next? What knife has caught your eye?

I'll start: It's probably going to be a Benchmade Mini-Bugout. I've been carrying a Benchmade Sequel as my 'office knife' for a couple of years, and I really, really like it. The Axis lock system allows for very smooth, one-handed opening with just a flick of my wrist. The Sequel is in a steel that I like, 154CM, but the Mini Bugout is also in a steel that I like, S30V. (Of course, with the caveat that I'm really still figuring out what steels I like...) The one time I held a Bugout, it had too much flex in the grip for my comfort, but that's a solvable problem. I have just discovered Flytanium. I think I could swap out the scales and add a backspacer to a Mini Bugout and make a serviceable knife for office carry. Unobtrusive, but good steel.

I like knives, have quite a few, but only recently came across an interesting comparison video that -- for my purposes -- identifies the Spyderco and SOG brands as most suitable. YMMV

A Bowie of some stripe. I have a few ideas, but none of the non-custom makers seem to make what I want (Damascus like steel, ironwood scales, brass, etc.).

So now I’m looking to find someone to make a custom knife, maybe.

If you're interested look into 310 Forge for your next Bowie, the maker Mike Kahil is a friend of mine and he made my rendition of the Bart Moore Bowie FB_IMG_1643432189462.jpg FB_IMG_1645837292895.jpg

Spyderco Native 5 Salt with Magnacut blade. Already pre-ordered. Just waiting for my card to get charged and for it to ship when the dealer gets them from Spyderco.

Have you considered the aforementioned Native 5? It's becoming a de facto folding mule with all the steels that are already standard offerings.

My next will be an Ontario product. Likely a RAT3. I know too many people who love them to not try one. I need to handle some and figure out what feels good before I buy though.

Spats, I've always enjoyed your posts and they've even cost me money. 20181217_195213.jpg

Look back in time for some great knives. I've been on a kick to find knives that I wanted years ago.

Couple of Pacific Cutlery knives, this is before they combined with Balisong to form Benchmade. Top is a Fer-de-lance and bottom is the Timba. I'm still looking for a Timba without the sawteeth.

I did a little reading on Magnacut, because you mentioned it in your post. One of the things I'm working on is relearning to freehand sharpen. I'm not sure I want to do that with Magnacut.

My next one will either be a backup to or replacement for my Case Trapper when/if it wears out. It will also be a Case Trapper.

Need to give some thought to a carbon steel (non coated) fixed blade that isn’t overly costly that I can beat on. Not sure make or model….

Sorry, but you all plan too much. When something catches my eye, I will pounce. However, Rust Collector's wish for a Helle Eggen has now caught my eye. Curses. Its like a song you can't get out of your head. Love the wood.

Ah, the curse of the curly birch! I know you understand that the knife that arrives seldom glows like the knife you ordered. Nevertheless, each is different, they are made by Norwegians practicing an honorable tradition, and they reflect the thinking of the people of Scandinavia. Many potential sources seem out of stock for that model, but good things are worth the wait.

Probably an Old Hickory of some kind. Maybe 8 inch slicer or a longish Butcher. Everything in my kitchen is stainless. Kind of miss a patina on a cooking knife.

EDIT: Well hell. 8 inch slicer and 14" butcher are on the way. To get free shipping I added a 3D LED maglite and a couple of keychain lights.

I’ve got a Spyderco Stretch 2 in K390 on the way. I have been impressed with this steel and wanted to try it out in a longer blade.

Based on its edge retention it should sharpen like S30V. Mine didn’t take long but I was using a Wicked Edge so that isn’t much help.

If you want, let me know and I’ll put a microbevel on my Mule Team Magnacut free hand and report back.
