Why I’m Cleaning my AK Today

Steel is about 0.36/rd. Brass is about 0.45/rd. That's a selection from many sellers on Ammoseek. I guess it depends on ones definition of "almost". ;)
Rural King is 12.99 for 20rd box of steel of Wolf. They also had Igman 60rd boxes of brass cased form$32.99 last weekend.A bigger LGS has Red Army/Tula for 9.99 and they have Belom brass cased for $12.99 a box. Cheapest I've gone lately locally is $9 a box of 20 and I suspect after it's gone and they get more it will be more.

And Rural King last weekend I was there probably had a 1k of the Wolf boxes sitting on the display.

I bought some Tula 7.62x39 at my local Bi-Mart, at $7.50 a box of 20.
The clerk even let me buy 4 boxes instead of the usual two. Supplies will be gone by tomorrow I'm sure.

Have the lowest prices for this actually increased all that much compared to 1-4 months ago?
My general impression is that basic prices (before tax and shipping) a few months ago were nearly identical with today's prices.

Are people excluding the recent Internet Sales Tax from the discussion?

7.62x39mm Ammo | Best 7.62x39mm Ammunition - AmmoSeek.com 2022

The current lowest-priced.308 (I ordered tonight) was 4 Cents Per Round (.54) more than it was three weeks ago. Then it was .50 per round.

Once people / If people.... realize in a week or two that there still are vast quantities of "foreign ;) steel-cased" ammo in the US, they might also realize that it's not gonna disappear very quickly.

But if they no longer see it at Academy Sports, will they know that it's easily available online?
Many of the type I'm referring to seem to only know Where to go when an English Border Collie 'tells' their herd where to maneuver

If you aren’t tracking, all ammo shipments from Russia have been terminated permanently. That means even the 2 year grace period on import licenses is now null and void. Over the past 48 hours, prices on steel cased ammo including 7.62x39mm have SKYROCKETED.

I can no longer afford to shoot this weapon, and what steel cased ammo remains in this country will quickly be hoarded out of existence and become collector’s items. This AK has close to 4,000 rounds through it with no cleaning and 0 failures.

But with recent events, having an unkept rifle just doesn’t seem appropriate and I won’t be able to afford ammos for it anymore anyway. I’ll keep it and the remaining 1500 rounds I have left loaded in magazines for immediate action should everything fall to pieces, but other than that, my favorite rifle is now retired.

God bless,

reload brass

Ever hear of supply and demand? I am quite sure that US or other nations will and do manufacture this ammo. Lawd.

Well folks, looks like flint, black powder and round balls from here on out.

We'll be fine. No need to worry. Buy brass cased ammo and roll your own if you have concern . I've never liked steel cased ammo and if you figure the cost of not reusing cases, steel cased ammo actually costs more. Shoot good ammo, it leaves you with cases that can be reused many times. The cases are the only part that can't be improvised the rest can be figured out if in a pinch.

Don't have a AK but I do have a Romanian SKS and a couple Yugo's I can't find on my inventory sheet. I have twelve boxes of tulammo for them somewhere. I'm down to one box of 7.62x54R for the Mosins. Sure wish I had bought more back in the day.

My SKS is fun to shoot but never gets enough exercise, I just don’t have time. So although I’d dearly love to buy 5000 rounds just for fun, I’m not going to. The 500 or so I have on the shelf will have to do.

I never put a gun away dirty, so I’m already set. My 5 rifles that are chambered in 762x39, are definitely not getting run like they used to:(
Kusa is supposed to get into the ammo game, so fingers crossed.

I never jumped on the 7.62x39 bandwagon but if I had I would be set up to reload for it if dies are made for it. I never even bothered to check to see if they are. No need to panic over getting ammo if you are a fan though as there will be plenty of options.

I thought the same when they blocked the chinese imports back in the 90's. Still have a bunch of the Romanian ammo that I bought when it started coming in as well as some of the chicom stuff.
Nature, and commerce, abhors a "vacuum"... ;)

I'm rich. I'm rich!!:)
But only if I sell
Which I am not gonna do because to would violate my prime directive of always buying high and selling LOW!

PSA is currently setting up a 7.62x39 steel case assembly line. They have said they should be able to produce ammo for slightly more than it cost to import. Price will be higher than before but it wont be unattainable. Even if price jumps 50 percent we are still talking about 30ish cents a round.

I have several thousand of rounds 7.62x39 Golden Tiger stashed away. Fortunately it is for my Ruger American Ranch rifles. For me, age wise, it probably equates to more than a life time's supply. I agree with others that the demand is too large for someone to not find a solution.

JC- It looks like you have a decent supply on hand to take care of business if needed, good on you!

By this same logic shouldn’t your retire your M1 carbine?

I'm not seeing a lot of 30 carb cases laying around at the range. I think most people who own those have already retired them. I have one and reload for it so I shoot it a few times a year with abandon. I just like to watch people drool over it. Kind of sick, I know.

This. I outgrew my spray and pray days about 40 years ago. Sure, it was fun to see how many AK rounds we could get off in a minute, but what exactly does that accomplish?

The 7.62x39 is a great little round to reload for. I did for years. Scary accurate in a good bolt gun too. I've never had any use for an AK or SKS however. If the chit really did hit the fan, I'm gonna be outgunned just like everyone else here. And if we're talking survival, my air rifle and a few thousand pellets will feed me just fine, without letting everyone know where I am. ;)
