I've been curious for years about the Pietta "Shooters Model" Remington and could never rationalize the hefty price tag. So just a couple of weeks ago this one popped up on Gunbrokers. It was offered at a buy it now price that I couldn't pass up. Turns out to be a new in box, and unfired example made in 1996. The revolver has an amazing match grade trigger and it locks up like a bank vault. Took it to the range Friday and put 30 rounds through it. Shot a bit high and slightly to the right. I drifted the front sight a bit to the right and trimmed a bit off the top of the sight. .457 balls just about drop into the cylinder, so I have on order a .464 mold from Dixie Gunworks. Even at that, it groups very nicely at 25 yards. If I get the mold in time I'll cast some and try it out again next Sunday.

.452’s rolled in and out of cylinder. I could start.457’s with my thumb. .464 is actually Pietta’s recommended size. I always want to see that ring of lead when I drive them home. Thanks for your response.

Thanks for the Intel. Didn't realize that they recommend 0.464.

I only have two Pietta .44 cals and they are both over a decade old before they went to the new CNC process. The chambers measure 0.447. One is a Blued 1860 and the other is a SS 1858.

Lucky you, Pietta no longer makes those. One thing the machine that did the progressive rifling was an antique and very slow, (no CNC).

The Shooter is a very good revolver. Out of the box equal or nearly so to the old army.

Unable to post pictures (only have a tablet and no real internet), but just got an Uberti 1858 New Model Army in S/S with target sights. I also got a Howell 45colt cylinder as I've been reloading them for target practice with a Ruger Redhawk .454 Casull
Can I still get to join the "SUPER SECRET SOCIETY" ???

I recently got a S.S. Remington New Model Army with adj sights along with a 45 Colt conversion cylinder. Loaded up a 200gr lead semi wad cutter bullet with 5.8gr of Winchester 231 powder. It is an accurate powder puff load that my wife likes to shoot. It is shooting 7" high at 35ft and the rear sight is cranked all the way down. any ideas on how to raise up the front dovetailed sight?

Finlay, after more than a year of searching and waiting, I have it. Made by Uberti:

I have to admit that I am pleased, even surprised, with fit and finish. Equals, at least, Ruger Old Army I have. As for steel quality, can't comment that. Could anybody shed more light? FYI, this revolver was made recently.

How odd, seems like a .454 would be fine. Did you put a caliper in the cylinders to check what they are reamed out to?
Those chambers are supposed to be reamed 456 at the factory. The only chain fires I’ve experienced were from the gun I posted above and .457 balls.

Went to the LGS to put a Benjamin on my latest purchase, a used 1873 Uberti unmentionable, in the cabinet is a 58 stainless with a '79 code, has some wear on the grips but perfectly fit, trigger is weird but locks up right, worn nipples but tight end play... put it on layaway... I can't wait to resurrect this ...
