My son got a 301single shot 20 gauge for Xmas. Three different people have shot this gun and everyone shoots it drastically left. We have shot boards to see the pattern and at 25 yards, the pattern barely hits the POA. We have also used different shells/shot size and two different choke tubes all with the same results. The elevation is perfect. I’m considering asking Stevens to look at it. Any thoughts? Should I expect a low end single shot to shoot straight?

I appreciate the insight. I have a young man at home who is tore up that his Christmas gift isn’t working the way it should. They are closed until Monday. I’ll give them a call and see what they say.

I had one for a while that shot perfectly and produced nice patterns. The gun honestly exceeded my expectations of it. I would certainly contact Them about it.

I agree. Mine has been an excellent gun.
Contact Stevens and please let us know what they do to correct the problem.

Update:
I sent the shotgun back to Savage. They do not issue return authorizations like other companies I have dealt with over the years. I had to spend $40 to ship it via my FFL dealer. They received it so now I need to wait for their response.

I had the same problem with a Barreta pistol. They had an update for the gun and would not pay the return postage. I replaced it with something else.
I wouldn't give up on Savage yet. If they determine there was a fault with the gun they might issue you a refund.
Thanks for keeping us updated.

Received an email from Savage today. I need to mention that I had to instigate all communication regarding my returned gun. I’m not sure when I would have received any news about my son’s shotgun had I not researched how to get a hold of someone.

Ends up that they are going to replace the shotgun. I’m excited about that. We just do not know when they will have one to ship though. I’m sure it will be a while unfortunately. At least they are addressing our issue and making it right.

You never know they might have one to send you. Good to hear they are standing behind their products.

To the OP, what was the sight setup on that gun? A single bead? Double bead? Vent rib?

Trying to understand how a shotgun could pattern right or left of center. A double bead with one or the other set off the exact center line could cause it. But what else?

It had a single bed. Several different shooters tried the firearm with the same results. We even shot it from a benchrest. I’m assuming the barrel was slightly bent or the choke tube was not centered in the barrel when they cut the threads in the barrel.

My FFL called and said that I had a new shotgun to pick up. Stevens send us a new and perfect shotgun. This one shoots great. My boy is so excited. I’m happy that they took care of us.

Good for you and your son.
Did they by any chance pay the return postage? That would have been the frosting on the cake.
