Looking to add another rifle. Maybe a 10.5"/14.5" barrel, but likely a carbine or perhaps 18-20" barrel
My Stag is my SHTF rifle, but maybe this could become that or it will just stay range toy. Either way, I win! Anyone have any experience with the ones below? Feel free to toss in another, but only 5.56/223. Also, I handled a SCAR 16s yesterday and did not care for it.

My short list so far LOL...

Steyr AUG
Springfield Hellion
Desert Tech MDR/MDRX
JP Precision 15
HK MR556
CZ Scorpion carbine

Honestly, if I am narrowing it down right now the list would look like this... (Not in order)

CZ Scorpion carbine
HK MR556
DD AR-15
KAC AR-15
Steyr AUG

For some reason, I really want an AUG. I need to handle one. Hopefully, my local shop still has 1 the next time I go

I’ve never shot one, but I’m intrigued by the Tavor X95. I want one, but I recently bought a Jeep and you know what that means!

If I were to recommend to you a no nonsense self loader, it would be the Colt 6920.

EDIT- There’s nothing wrong with a Colt 6920. But in this case, I meant to recommend the Colt 6960 which I think is better

I've done the Tavor and Aug. They just didn't do anything for me to make me decide on their favor. For function, ergonomics, price, parts, mags, etc, I always returned to the AR-15 Carbine or "pistol" . It's just hard to beat.

I also have a Beretta carbine in 9mm. Give it a look. I'm confident and comfortable traveling with the Beretta carbine, a 92, and half a dozen interchangeable mags.
Then, if you must have something non AR, go mini-14.

Had a couple CX4 Storms years ago. Loved them, but not what I am after here

I don't like the look, and it was just not "intuitive". Combine that with the price and I just did not see it doing anything an AR pistol wouldn't do for about 60% less $$.

What's the general opinion on Colt 6960 vs Daniel Defense vs Knight's Armament?

The more I think about it, the more I think I should just stick with traditional AR platform. Already have the muscle memory, proven etc. Versus going bullpup and having to get used to a different setup that isn't the most comfy or accurate anyway + buy new magazines etc.

Don't get me wrong, I still want something like the AUG...just because I can lol. Afraid I'd not enjoy shooting it, though.

Am I thinking too much here?

Handled a Steyr AUG today. Disappointed. Felt very cheap. The trigger reminded me of the trigger on my high tower armory bullpup kit for my 10/22. Cool gun, but I don't know that I want to spend $1,900 on it. Maybe just get a Kel-Tec RDB for a lot less to scratch that itch and also get a nice AR like Knights or HK MR556 or ??

I have a CZ Scorpion. It shoots decent and hasn't given me any trouble. However, I also have a Kalashnikov KP-9. I like shooting it a whole lot better. The KP-9 is a little more expensive, but I like it. My CZ model has the 8" barrel so it is a little larger than some.

I just bought a Scorpion Evo 3.

Personally I would get an exact replica of your SHTF rifle as a backup before proceeding to anything else. Two is one, one is none.

Those that would buy the HK, what would you buy instead of the HK was unavailable?

Also, how accurate are ARs like Knight's? I am looking for something very accurate

If you are looking for accuracy, I would probably go with an 18" JP or similar.

My experience with the 16" Knight's SR-15 accuracy has been good, definitely sub MOA, but I have a 16" stainless Palmetto upper that shoots about the same.

Build quality is a different subject. The Knight's fit, finish, and tolerances are much more controlled. It has the intermediate gas system and the proprietary bolt which greatly improves bolt life. Excellent platform if you want to run suppressed.

Edit to add some groups at 50 and 100 yards. Shooter error on the top right group :uhoh:

I am looking for something very accurate, reliable and ideally lighter than my Stag. I know the MR556 is not light. Accurate and reliable are the 2 I am most concerned with. With optic & light, my Stag weighs 8.4 lbs

I think I have it narrowed down to JP, Wilson Combat or maybe Geissele, but I think Geissele will lose due to 1:7 twist. I'm thinking go with 1:8

If you want lightweight and defense minded, I would look at a Daniel Defense with a 14.5" LW barrel. The one I built for my former spouse, with an ALG rail, was super light.

It was accurate enough to hit 10" circles at 550 yards using Hornday 68 BTHP.
