Affordable 22LR (Lowest shipped pricing)

UPDATE:

Scored some Federal Automatch from Walmart for $22/325 or 6.7 cents per round. Haven’t bought 22 that cheap since March of 2020.

Today walmart near me has cci 22 lr for under $5, 50 rounds box.
Lowest price I've see in a long time.

Bought some of each on Monday from my local Walmart. The Federal Automatch shot very well from both my Henry Lever and my Glock 44.

I bought 3 boxes (50 ea) of the CCI std velocity for a friend. It’s darn good ammo too…

Been buying the federal from Walmart also still too expensive for lead nose though.

Agree but disagree. 10 years ago (or when I first bought Fed Automatch), it was $16 a box for 375 rounds But based on current and recent prices, I think it’s one of the best deals available today.

And I find it shoots superior to most of the basic range ammo.

YMMV

UPDATE/Correction: My older boxes were also 325 rounds..got them confused with another bulk pack. But I do remember them costing $16 per pack. So that means with tax (TX 8.25%) prices were:

2012: $17.30 / 325 = $0.052 per round
2022: $23.76 / 325 = $0.073 per round

It’s a 40% increase in 10 years, but i understand that the majority of the increase happened in the last couple years. Still, I feel it’s a good price based on today’s reality.

Again, just IMO

Based on today’s reality of overall high material costs, inflation, global unrest, and energy prices, I don’t know if or when prices will get back to the lows of the Trump administration. I’ll not say “never”, but I just don’t see it happening any time in the next few years.

That said, I’m resigned to buying my favorite flavors of range grade .22LR at $0.10 per round (out the door or delivered). When I get it cheaper, I’ll buy. I have enough ti get me past the next couple election cycles easy, but I add when it makes sense.

My target price used to be $0.06 per round, but I’m past that. I’m not waiting for sub “nickel a round” prices.

Just my logic and me doing me.

Hit your Wal-Marts if Auto Match and CCI SV is your thing. I have been finding it consistently for about 3 months now. If I remember right, AM is $20 and SV is under $5. Although if you were spoiled by the older, all blue box of SV you will be disappointed in the new SV with the orange stripe. I did inventory the other night of 22lr and if memory serves me right I am over 5k. Most of its SV and mini mags.

UPDATE:

With diesel now approaching (and possible passing) a 100% increase in price i cannot see how free shipping will survive without similar increases in product price.

If you are concerned about shipping/cost increase, stock up now. :)
I predict sustained/increased diesel prices, alone, will impact any "free shipping" offers
If you are concerned, then stock up while "free shipping" is offered.

Too true and happening now. Could be another "shortage" soon and starting to see empty shelves again. ,22 and 7.62x39 is very scarce here and .223 is disappearing as well. The trend for many calibers is reduced round boxes.

And reason why I do these threads for THR members ... so they can stock up when things are in stock at lower/lowest available prices.

Recently in June of 2019, 22LR were selling for $15-$20/500 shipped - https://www.thehighroad.org/index.php?threads/22lr-for-less-than-15-20-500-shipped.853059/

Happy days are here again!

During the last shortage, I was happy to see any brick of 22LR for less than $50. :eek:Now that price of 22LR seems to be staying low, starting a "cheaper" 22LR for less than $15-$20/500 thread.
When price of 22LR began to fall, I started the "22LR for less than $30/500" thread - https://www.thehighroad.org/index.p...ammo-for-sale-under-30-for-500-rounds.825048/

When copper plated 22LR fell below $15/500, I did the happy dance and really started stocking up - https://www.thehighroad.org/index.p...30-for-500-rounds.825048/page-7#post-11157569
After seeing several ammunition/component shortages during the past 30 years (Last peak in 2013 with bottom in 2019), I think we are going through another shortage "cycle".

Now the question is "Are we at the bottom?"

I thought we saw the peak last year and was anticipating the bottom as we approached summer/fall (I was thinking price dropping towards $30/500) but I believe "war" in Ukraine threw a wrench in the cycle. BUT as you can see from my updates, 22LR ammunition are still being manufactured domestically and in other countries and are in stock for us to order with free/reasonable shipping charges.

So before we go into "full panic mode", I think we should:
  • Only buy some if you are completely out of 22LR and must shoot
  • Shoot stock piled 22LR while saving money to buy more
  • Decrease/stop shooting and save money while watching prices
If prices continue to fall with ammunition coming into stock as we approach summer/fall, then we may just be experiencing "delay" in the shortage cycle.

If prices do not fall and rather go back up with ammunition being out of stock, then this was the bottom.

Time will tell.

Appreciate your efforts. As a side effect local shops seem to have stopped taking in cheaper .22s. Aks and sks's still out of sight despite ammo issues. Last show some ammo calibers started to sell briskly again. Specifically .22 and 7.62x39 and even 30-30 and lead shotshells. Ban on Russian stuff isn't helping. Also hearing some "quality " issues on some brands yet they sold out fast.

Can't speak for other calibers as this thread is focused on 22LR and I reload all the calibers I shoot (So 22LR pricing/inventory is only caliber I am actively monitoring).

Good news is CCI is the manufacturer and selling direct to consumers and they are in stock (so is Norma) and we can order from their websites.

40 grain CCI, Remington Thunderbolt and Aguila for $3.99/50 rounds. 500 rounds of 40 grain Aguila was marked at $37.99
500 round boxes of Herters for $31.99 a box.
Nice!

Looks like 22LR ammunition supply and pricing are improving.

We will monitor the price/inventory trend like last shortage while saving up money and stock up again at the bottom. ;)

UPDATE: This is first time I am seeing CCI Blazer in a long while and during my 10,000 round testing with 10/22 and T/CR22, Blazer has produced smallest consistent groups than CCI SV and Aguila LRN/CPRN.

Good news! Looks like 22LR prices are trending down with CCI SV now at $36.09/500!!! which is lowest I have seen in a long while.

Now that $40/500 barrier seems to have been broken for some time, will closely track pricing to see if price trend moves below $35/500.
