I tried to mount a scope today with the recommended 1" rimfire rings with horizontal divide. When I tried to place the top half of the ring on the scope it seemed not to fit...too tight. I pushed firmly with my thumb, but stopped to avoid scratching the scope tube. I'm told that Warne rimfire rings are supposed to "snap on". Has this been your experience? None of my other Warne rings have been anything other than very precise and high quality. I've mounted quite a few scopes and have never had a ring that "snaps on". And if that is the case, what happens when you want to remove the rings and have to pry it off? In fact, I've learned the hard way that you should never try to force precision made parts. If it doesn't fit, it doesn't fit. Help me out here, please.

Ive used every type of ring Warne makes, and most in multiples, never seen one "snap" on to anything.

Contacted Warne and they said it is a frequently asked question. Says that is the way they work and assured me that once you snap them on, they slide freely for positioning. The scope is a Tract Tekoa with 1" tube. I may look for other ring options. Can anyone suggest rings that have the traditional horizontal split that can be attach to a dove tail? Probably 11mm since it is an Anschutz 1517D

That's interesting, ive never had to snap mine on.

CZ makes a nice pair of 11 mm rimfire rings, I have some 30 I'm not using right now but no one inch.

I’ve not had to “snap” any of my Warne rings onto my scopes, but frankly, I wouldn’t use a ringset which did so.

Read the reviews to answer your question, leupold prw rings were like this, they said it have more ring contact or something. They did end up changing them probably because so many users were calling in asking why they snap over.

use some paper or thin plastic under the ring when snapping them on it you don't want to scratch anything. Leupolds instructions used to say pry the ring apart with the torex wrench to help slip them over. I bet they changed that pretty quick.

Here's the ring I've been talking about. Should have included it to begin with.

HUH, Ive never actually seen those!
I went and looked at my 457, and the rings I THOUGHT were Warnes are talley.

Ive got a set of those leupy rings, and they do work fine, I sanded the edge to keep them from scratching tho. As you way the Warnes linked look similar and I guess Im not surprised they snap on anymore.

I have those warned rings on my cz 455. They do kind of pop over. Then side freely. Not my favorite design ever, but functional.

Yes, that's how the rings that mount on a dovetail go on. The top ring half snaps onto the scope tube and is snug. They haven't scratched any of my scopes at all, and they work great. These are the QD version.

That is why I ask these questions on THR. I get so much help. OK....so I'll try to mount them again. I'll ad a little candle wax to make the process a bit smoother. Thanks for the help.

I have a couple of sets of those Warne rings. Mine were tight and would have snapped over if I put them on dry. I used dish soap for lube to put the top clamp on. That tight fitting top clamp makes it harder to adjust crosshairs and eye relief.

These type Warne rings do not have a horizontal split. If you look carefully you will see that the cutout is less than 180 degrees. Therefore they must "snap" over. No way around it.

OK guys. With your help I learned what I needed to and the scope is now firmly clasped with the odd rings and will be zeroed on Friday. I used a bit of candle wax to gently snap on the rings. It worked very well. Tom

I thought I had posted the Leupold QRW similarity here but yeah, I never cared for the design, much preferring the traditional Warne vert. split. I think I sent all my Leupold rings to Loon for destructive testing lol. As I recall, dad tried tightening one side down too far before getting a good start on the other, which left it hanging by a thread that sure enough stripped out as the opposite side bit in.

So much love for Burris Sigs. and Talley after he showed me that.

Yeah you did, I think I have one set still in service.
The steel in those bases is pretty soft, I ended up tapping out that hole to 8-40 I think.
Not sure where the second set went..... probably on a gun somewhere in the case.
