I rarely have had over 8 guns at a time so let’s use that for a good number. The rules are loose so if you can’t live without a bakers dozen that’s fine. But what is your must have working guns. Currently I only have 5 guns, so there is a few spots I’m looking to fill. But mostly I always get working guns that fit my needs with little overlap. That’s what I’m interested in here.

I don’t mean saying a 22, a 12 gauge, and a cc piece. I mean what are the actual guns you have or want to fits your needs.

I’ll start.

1. A 22 rifle. Currently it’s a marlin 60 but I want a Marlin model 39a. I’d be content to swap the 60 in on the deal and be a 1 22 rifle man with just that fine old levergun.

2. A 22 pistol. For me it’s a Ruger single six. Need I say more?

3. 12 gauge shotgun, a Remington 870. I have a beater express model but I’d rather it be a nice wingmaster but regardless an 870 is the shotgun that fits me and shoots the best I’ve found.

4. A Ruger Blackhawk 44 special. I love Ruger blackhawks and the magical 44 special just adds further luster to its mystique. I carry this one daily.

5. A Winchester 94 30-30. I may end up with a marlin 336 or even a marlin 1894 at some point and pass on the Winchester to my son. A lever action in medium caliber is the ideal center fire for me.

Others have come and gone, and will continue, but that’s my must haves.

Can I play?

My Primary .22LR Rifle: Ruger 10/22
My Primary .22LR Pistol: Ruger SR22P
My Primary self defense pistol: Glock 26 Gen 3
My Primary Deer Hunting Rifle: Marlin 336C
My Primary shotgun: Savage 745 (Browning A5 clone)
My Primary self defense rifle: Palmetto State Armory kit built on Anderson Mfg. Lower.

1. My Browning Buck Mark Target .22lr.
2. My Savage Mark 2 FV in .22lr
3. My Rock River Arms AR-15 in .223/556
4. My Winchester Model 70 Pre-64 Rifle in .308
5. My Winchester Defender Pump 12ga.
6. My Ruger Redhawk in .41mag
7. My Colt Delta Elite Gold Cup in 10mm

Depends on whether we are talking business or pleasure.

An old S&W Model 19 in .357 is my EDC, and would do, in a pinch, as my only gun.

I really prefer a shotgun for HD, though, so the Mossberg 590 AT is another "core" gun.

I consider a .22 absolutely critical for development, maintenance, and teaching of handgun skills, and rely on another old S&W revolver for the task: a K22 "Combat Masterpiece".

And for just plain fun, a good single action in a big caliber fills the bill. For me, the Ruger Flattop in .44 Special is the one most often in my holster.

Like most folks, I have a bunch of other guns that do more-or-less the same things, but those four are the ones I depend upon day-to-day.

My gun that does the most heavy lifting is definitely my 10/22 with cheap 4x scope. Small game hunting, livestock defense, livestock butching. It does all of the Above with ease giving proper ammo selection. My mossberg is right on its heels as far as getting heavy use. As a single action fan, they are the handguns I use most.
So for me
1) 10/22 with low power optic
2) mossberg 500 12ga
3) ruger Blackhawk flattop 44 special. with proper loading does anything I would need to do with a handgun. Skeeter loads mostly sometimes light target loads around the farm, especially during rabbit season

3 integral working guns.

1. Glock 29 10 mm for EDC. A fine powerfull load and easy concealment.

2. Ruger Mini 30. A great rifle with a fine Bushnell scope attachment and 3, 30 round magazines.

3.Mossburg Predator 12 gauge with interchangeable barrel for that elusive turkey.

My core working guns are as follows...

I have two pocket 380s for summer time pocket carry that I alternate. LCP and PPK.

My two small belt pistols that I alternate for spring/fall carry under a light cover garment. M&P Shield 9mm, and 45.

My M&P M2.0 9mm Compact 4" for winter carry under a jacket. Though, I have found this isn't that hard to conceal so I usually wear this in the spring/fall months as well, instead of an M&P Shield.

My Model 642 for around the house/ yardwork pocket carry. I don't care if this one gets dirty.

My carry gun is a Sig P320 Compact.
My home defense is a Glock 34 with a TLR1.
SHTF will be one of five AR's, one for me one for the wife.
The wifes carry is a SW Shield.
Working shotgun is a Mossberg 500 Thunder Ranch edition with a light and side saddle.
Fun guns are various beretta 92's, Sigs, 1911's etc..

My primary handgun is a Glock 17 Gen 5.
Home defense is a 1941 Winchester model 12 Riot gun, 12ga.
primary upland/small game hunting gun is a 1921 Ithaca flues 16ga sxs
Primary deer hunting gun is a 1928 Winchester model 12 field in 12 GA. Shooting rifled slugs.
Waterfowl/Turkey/foul weather gun is a Mossberg 500 12ga.
Primary .22 is a 1922 Savage Sporter .22lr

30.06 for big game. I have 2 the pump for hunting. And my bolt is for range play.
.223 for varmints and range fun.
Pocket pistol for S/D
44 mag and 10mm for woods S/D
22 for some hunting and range play.
shotgun for small game.
Savage security 12 ga for home defence.

The guns I use and shoot most often and feel are "core" to me, even though I have others and multiples of pretty much the same thing like shotguns and Glock 9mm's but just to condense it to a few core guns, they are as follows:

Glock 19 9mm
Ruger 10/22 .22LR
Remington Wingmaster 870 12ga
AR15 5.56

I would include my bolt action .270 or 7-08 but in all honesty they hardly get shot and while they should fit nicely into the "working" guns that actually serve a purpose, if I'm being honest, I'm no great white hunter and while in terms of ethics and self reliance I like the idea of putting food on my table and harvesting my own meat, up to this point I've only taken my hunting rifles for nice long walks in the woods. No deer yet......

ETA: I omitted my LCP .380 for some odd reason, that gets shot and carried almost daily so that belongs on the list.....

My most “used” guns are my walking the property rifles, carry guns, deer/hog rifle, plinking rifle,

Walking the property- Remington 597 22 Mag or AR15.
Carry guns- Smith J Frame or Glock 21
Deer/Hog Rifle- Ruger American Ranch 450 BM, AR15, Marlin 1894SS.
Plinking/Practice/Proficiency Rifle- Marlin Model 60

That totals 7 different guns and I could live forever with only those 7. I have 7-9 more that fill all those categories that give some spice though.
