I'm not much of an AR guy, but I figured I'd have at least one. Nothing against them. I "built" this one a few years ago. 20220416_193509.jpg 20220416_190829.jpg It's an LMT Spm16 upper on an Aero Precision lower with an Aero Precision LPK and Magpul furniture (aside from the LMT handguard, which I'm not sure who makes that for them). The rear sight is Ruger, which has been great.

Just looking to try out a vertical grip, hopefully without replacing the handguard. Is there one that will "plug" into one of the holes? Again, I'm not an AR guy...

I'm open to replacing it if that's the best route, but I dont like/need 4 rails. I prefer the look/feel of the "standard" guard.

Thanks for any suggestions.

You don't need a handguard with four rails, just a handguard with the proper slots for Magpul accessories. That being said, the above accessory rail mentioned above will do the trick for you without replacing the handguard, but it does involve a rail, and I don't see how you can get around that without replacing the handguard.

The "easy button" is a rail that'll mount to the bottom clam shell.

I had one years ago pre Magpul MOE handguards. I remember it being very secure.

I think this is the one I used previously. It's certainly very similar.

Hey that looks great. And $13? I'll add one to my cart.

Correct. I'm open to adding a rail. Just curious what has worked out for you folks with this particular type of handguard.

Some guys were saying the Amazon rail for the standard m4 handguard didn't work out for them with the hardware that's included, but it appears to be slotted so if you're handy in that you could go to the hardware store and buy a couple washers, lock washers and a couple nuts for the included rail screws, you'd probably be in business.

I always liked the look of the sopmod style VFG on the standard clamshell handguard.....

What is this? I'm not sure of these terms, I understand clamshell handguard

Good to know. Thanks.

I may be using the term broadly in this case, but SOPMOD is "special operations peculiar modifications of the M4 carbine".

It was a range of optics and attachments to tailor the carbine to task for the needs of specific missions..... maybe somebody actually from the spec ops community might correct me, but initially I don't think pic rails and quad rails were a thing yet and the early SOPMOD kit I think just had a VFG (vertical foregrip) that attached directly to the clamshell handguard.

Someone might chime in and address what was used and how the VFG's attached to the M4 handguard. Might have even just been a small piece of 1913 pic rail for all I know, it would make sense that things would snowball from there and could be how we ended up with QR's in the first place.

Yikes, rambling......
