One 45 ACP

People on the internet often say the 97 is a lot bigger gun than the 1911, but I don't find that to be the case.

I think that might stem from the grip size. I have medium sized hands and the 1911 feels great where the CZ is just a little to fat to suit me and is the reason why I don't own one. I just handled a couple at our last gunshow in an effort to change my mind but it didn't happen.

Yep, they are definitely not small guns. Did you handle the recent model with the aluminum grips, or one with the wood grips. The aluminum grips are noticeably more trim in hand, but still not small.

I wear size Large gloves (like perhaps 80% of American men), but my hands aren't overly large at all. If you check my photos above, you see that the ergonomic grip on the 97 is more secure and comfortable in my hand than the stick-straight grip on the 1911 (well, perhaps you can't see all that in the photos, but it feels that way with the guns in hand.

Another thing I realized in recent years after buying my first Browning Medalist is that I had previously gravitated toward smaller grips that were small enough to let my fingers wrap quite far around the grip. However, with the Medalist's huge grip (shown below) that keeps your hand much more open I found that my groups improved significantly. I've let several friends and family members shoot the International Medalist shown below, and every single one of them out-shot their own handguns with it. I've also noticed that some of the highest-level competition handguns use the large, open-handed grip, so I'm convinced that there's something to it beyond just my own personal results. The 97's grip isn't remotely this large, but my point is that I've changed my view of what is a properly sized grip for me when shooting for accuracy. For a carry gun, I'd want something with a smaller grip even if my groups opened up a little bit when target shooting. All but one of my handguns (my carry gun) are for general enjoyment, and that usually comes down to seeing how accurately I can shoot them.

In my hands, this is the most accurate handgun I've ever fired (and I have several accurate handguns, and have fired a bunch of others belonging to friends, family, and acquaintances). All things considered, it's also my favorite to shoot.

It used to be an easy answer. 1911.

But the Glock 21 is such a great, soft and accurate shooter. And I just adore the HK45c as a carry gun that shoots every bit as good as a 1911 in my hands.

But I’d probably still say 1911. I’d never be happy if I didn’t have at least one.

I do happen to have just one .45 ACP.

I've had a few others, but all were either traded off or stolen. One of the latter was a nearly bone-stock G.I. 1911, and I'd like to have it back - though probably not enough to pay for it again.

If I can ever get my hands on a 1927 Thompson M1...

It’s got some heft to it

I think that’s one of the reasons it’s such a soft shooter

Glock 30. Simple choice for me. Carries well, holds 9, 10, 13 or ???. Something special about that stout little pistol, I had a g21 for a while but I could shoot the g30 just as well so I didn't need it anymore.
I've had 1911s, nice ones too. I found them great to fire at the range but not so great to carry and finicky/over complicated... Blasphemy , I know.

My love of all things 45 is real but the acp is the little spud that wants to be a 45 colt. Don't get me wrong, of the service cartridges available I'd take a 45 acp over almost any other (do we consider 10mm a service cartridge?). I don't mess around with 9mm, I do carry a 45 acp every day and probably always will. All that considered, 45 acp is a good cartridge and I wouldn't be without one.

These days I'm down to this exact scenario, I only have my g30 left and I wouldn't sell it for anything if I was unable to replace it.
