Thanks, I'm pretty experienced with online commerce (bought and sold on eBay, forums, etc) so I'm usually pretty thorough and vet sites pretty well.
if you decide not to invest $500-$600 in reloading there is another option!

$35 Lee Loaders! you can hammer out a 9mm in 20-40 seconds

Well, the deed is done!

A little background, I was trying to stay under $400 because the whole impetus for buying a kit is getting a $397 check from a class action suit against Facebook. They violated Illinois privacy law, and that's what I'm getting out of it. Just got notification that the checks start going out May 9th, so started looking more in earnest.

So... came across this deal on the Brownells website. Don't know if they entered the price wrong or it's on sale but just isn't showing up that way, but that price is ALOT lower than anywhere else, including direct from RCBS with my LE discount.

Also found a $40 off over $315 coupon, so came out to $309 shipped for the kit. That is about $70 cheaper than I could find it anywhere else.

Put it on the credit card, so now just need to hope that check comes on time to stay in the wife's good graces, haha.

An excellent investment and Marky Z approved.

I have a RCBS JR and the primer feed set up on it sucks. I have a Redding T7 turret (a tank of a press and very high quality) and the primer feed sucks on it also. Finally I bought an RCBS bench primer and that carried me through for a few years.

My progressive is a Dillon 550B. Although many will say otherwise I love the primer feed set up on the 550. With an optional tool heads which (which I have) I can do a caliber/primer change in ten minutes.

Dillons are guaranteed for life. The aftermarket accessory availability is huge for Dillon. And although I do not own any Hornady reloading equipment but I would say the aftermarket accessory market for a Hornady LNL would be huge also.

And Dillons and Hornady's cost a lot more than Lee.
If your RCBS doesn’t prime, usually it’s the wrong primer cup is installed large instead of small, or basic adjustments mate..MY o2 don’t have issues myself, except when I figured out the above...

NICE JOB! it’s your sizing .233, use cooking spray! it works good!

I can see Zucker's head exploding if he knew he was funding a reloading setup.

Great deal on the setup, and I think you'll like it. Single stage isn't the fastest, but you don't want to be in a hurry anyway. Learn each step and enjoy the process. And as others say, it may take a couple days or more to make fifty rounds. I often size/deprime 50~100 rounds and then walk away for a day or two, come back and install my next die, and so on. It can take me a week or more to load 100 rounds, but it may only be three hours at the bench. Sometimes I do it in one sitting. Really just depends on how I feel.

When I started I lived in an apartment where they would come in sometimes on short notice, so I kept everything put up and out of sight. When I wanted to load I would C-clamp my press to a table. A few minutes to set up and a few minutes to take down worked well for me at the time.

Read the manual that comes with the kit. Read it until you understand it, or come here and ask questions. Make a few dummy rounds to see how it works, no powder or primer, and you'll catch on pretty quick.

And again, great deal on the kit. Welcome to the addiction, I mean, welcome to the hobby!;)

So, just because I noticed it, that kit is back up to $399 on sale, so think I may have caught it mis-priced. Got the stock for my Weatherby Vanguard the same way, haha. Not gonna complain.:D
what did you pay for the kit?

Hey everybody, apologize for the very newbie question/thread. I'm looking to get started reloading. Part is for a small cost savings (I know that isn't as significant as it once was), part because Illinois is working on making it more difficult to buy ammo, and part just to be more self sufficient.

Ultimately I'd like to be able to reload for all of my calibers (except 22lr of course) but will probably start out with just one or two. What I own in order of my priority in starting to load them: 223, 357/38, 9mm, 243, 45 ACP, 308, 380.

This is a long term plan, so probably will piece everything together over some time. I know components can be hard to find at a reasonable price at the moment, so I'm not in a huge rush.

Looking for any input for anything I'm missing or things that should be replaced with something else. Cost is a consideration, just had a 2nd kid not too long ago!

So, here's my shopping list. Frankford Arsenal is on there quite a bit because I can get a significant discount on their stuff via ExpertVoice as "law enforcement."

Bench/stand - I'll probably get a standard work bench or the Frankford Arsenal Reloading Stand. I'm kind of leaning towards the stand to save space. I've also tossed around the idea of a small rolling tool cabinet and putting a wood top on it.

Dies (of course) - Going to probably start with 223 and go from there. I'll also toss in the shell holders here assuming the press I use needs them.

Press- Looking at a Lee Precision Classic Turret or Frankford Arsenal M-Press. Leaning towards the Lee since it'll probably be more convenient for loading pistol ammo. If I get the Lee, I'll also add the primer dispenser. If not, I'll add a hand priming tool.

Powder dispenser - I have the Lee Auto Drum on my list, but have also looked at Lyman. If I don't get the Lee press, I'll add a stand for it too. If not, I'll add a thru powder die for calibers that will need it.

Case lube - Hornady One Shot

Loading handbook - Lyman 50th Edition

Scale - Frankford Arsenal Reloading Scale, I'll also add a pan/funnel if needed.

Calipers - Frankford Arsenal digital. I have a set of Harbor Freight ones but want something I have more faith in.

Case cleaner - Frankford Arsenal Rotary Tumbler (I'll probably get the Lite because it's cheaper and I probably don't need the capacity of the larger one).

Case trim/prep - Frankford Arsenal Case Trim/Prep System. I was going to go with hand tool versions for this, but with my discount it's not much of a savings over the powered system.

Bullet puller - Frankford Arsenal Quick-N-EZ Impact bullet puller
Save money? ummmm......Be prepared to spend many thousands of dollars buying new guns for those used dies you bought on ebay! Or a new rifle for that 45-70 bullet mold you got at a garage sale! LOL Enjoy, it's a great hobby.
