Finally found Accurate No. 9 for sale and bought a can to try out in my 10 mm pistols.

I also found a good deal on 500 .401 220 grain jacketed bullets for $75. I figured I'd try them out in my G29 and XDM elite.

Both are running 3.8" factory barrels, while the G29 also has a KKM 4.5" barrel I run for woods carry.

Anyone have any experience using that powder with heavy bullets?

Looking for recipes for heavy-hitting woods loads and accurate powder puff range loads.

Speer13 only goes up to 200gr plated TMJ loads. They show a magnum primer, 12.5gr start and 14gr max load at 1,216fps from a 5 inch gun.
I would say 13gr is probably about max with 220gr jacketed bullets. AA9 will be very forgiving if they're a little hot.
Expect spectacular muzzle flash and cataclysmic muzzle blast.
I use AA9 for 44mag, 30carbine, I was using it in 9x19 until I got my 9mm silencer and found unburnt powder.

I've run #9 with 200gr jacketed in my G40 with a KKN barrel and around 12grs was tops.

I use it almost exclusively for this caliber normally loading the 180gr Gold Dot mainly for hunting. I use either Win LP or CCI-350 primers

I would use the 200gr data and back off around 1 to 1.5grs and work up slow as needed.

Hope that helps, be careful.

Yessir, AA9 is a good powder for 10MM. Not sure I’d use that weight of bullet for a 3.8” barrel but if it’s all you have, go for it.

I’m using 165 gr Gold Dots and AA#9 (15.4gr) for PD in my XDM Elite. Take a good look at Underwood Ammo for 10MM PD factory ammo as well.

Also, roughly 14.5 gr with 200 gr XTP’s out of my G20.

My all time favorite 10MM powder is 800X but it’s discontinued so only a few of us has some left. 180 gr XTP’s move fast with 800X.

Finally, Longshot is what I’m using for 180 gr range fodder out of both the XDM and G20.

Its my favorite for 357 with 158g bullets. I get within 1-2% fps of published loads from my Blackhawk, it seems to like the high end toward max.

Oh, I have plenty of bullets ranging from 145 gr. cast, 155 grain XTPs, 155 grain Berry's, 165 grain Speer Gold Dots, 180 grain cast, 180 grain jacketed RN, thousands of 180 grain XTPs, and some 200 grain XTPs.

I just thought the 220 grain would be interesting to try. I also have a bunch of different powders I use as well.

#9 is awesome for higher velocities, but I am working on 10mm subs for suppressed use and found I couldn't get the 180 grainers to cooperate with that powder for me...
Have since switched to 220 grain bullets and found a decent load with Alliant Sport Pistol and SNS 220gr TCFP----quiet and accurate.
Also working on an RMR sold 220gr plated RNFP with the same Alliant powder - haven't gotten a chance to get to the range with the new loadings yet...
But if you are seeking hard hitting, high velocity rounds - can't go wrong with #9.....

220gr is very heavy as I've loaded much 10mm AA#9 but in 150gr, 165gr, 180gr and 200gr. Think I did some cast 170gr too but never anything at 220gr. Have fun, be safe.

I haven't shot it much but I have worked up with a 230gr cast from an MP mold for my G29 with a stock length KKM barrel.
These were shot in South Carolina in July - very hot conditions.
1.25" oal, CCI 300, Accurate #9
10.6gr - 1041 fps
10.8gr - 1079 fps
11.0gr - 1138 fps
I made a note at 11 grains that primers are beginning to show some flattening.
Jacketed bullets normally produce less pressure than cast bullets of similar size. You should be safe to work up to at least 12gr before any real concerns arise.
