Companies with existing and pending importation permits at time of the "ban" continued to import Russian ammunition because of a State Dep't "loophole". Import of ammunition from Russia may be coming to an end because of banking and economic sanctions.

On March 16, the Russian army advanced on Chernihiv, Bucha and Irpin, Ukraine – firing steel-cased ammunition from the military's AK rifles.

On the other side of the globe, a cargo ship carrying the same type of ammo from St. Petersburg docked in Philadelphia. A container with pallets of shrink-wrapped boxes slowly made its way to warehouses in Florida, South Carolina and Ohio and onto store shelves nationwide.

All Russian ammo was banned for import to the U.S. as of Sept. 7, 2021, but the cheap 7.62 x 39 mm bullets – favored by many Americans for target practice with semiautomatic rifles – kept flowing because of a State Department loophole allowing existing and pending import permits to stand. Russian brands such as Wolf, TulAmmo and Barnaul are easy to find at gun shops and U.S.-based online retailers.

What Russian ammo ban? Loophole keeps it on US shelves, splitting gun rights groups (msn.com)

If I understand correctly, the "loophole", a term laden with value judgement, was that permits had been issued before the about-face and would likely not be renewed when they had been fulfilled. Now that payment cannot be made, purchases cannot proceed regardless of prior authorization. Some of the ammo previously purchased was apparently sent to Ukraine earlier.

LOOPHOLE!!!!!:what: Evil loophole Russian loving American gun owners are terrible!!! (eye roll). Yea there is no loophole, just how the ban was put in place. More media hype and it only makes sense that payment problems would halt Russian ammo when we are seizing yachts and homes at will.

“Loophole” you mean like Congress passing laws that apply to every American, except themselves? Something written in intentionally.

Or are they citing a law that was insufficient as drafted and didn’t cover all the bases? This happens all the time when people try to control things they don’t know anything about.

To me this is very personal. Not a dime of my money will go toward any products of any kind from the center of the former USSR. Now when things are settled in that part of the world I expect there to be a huge surplus available from manufacturers in friendly countries. If I were of a mind to own an AK pattern rifle I'd get one while they are cheap, and feed it later on that basis.

I hope we don’t completely lose the ability to feed our Russian weapons. Individual personal feelings aside.
Reload and you wont, tho I doubt youd want to make 1000rnds of blasting ammo.....Hornady at least is producing all the major Ruski rounds in brass. If there's a market id expect others to start as well.

As we have seen repeatedly, any inkling of a shortage, scarcity or kink in the supply chain puts certain types in panic mode. Those types are those who live in fear of running out, and those who wish to make a profit off the former by putting another link in the supply chain.

Any ammo that is stateside has been paid for, and buying it does not help Russia. Do not make a gun purchase on the basis of cheap ammunition and you will be OK.

I'm sure the reality is if they refused the ships at the port post embargo they'd just send the ammo back to be used in Ukraine. I keep hearing any ammo not already on there way was being redirected to the war

The term "loophole" is used every time the stupid gun grabbers don't get their way. The ban is on new permits, after August or September of 2021. The permits last for 2 years.
I say buy all the ammo and primers you can from Russia. Less they have to use in Ukraine.
The United States was buying million of dollars per day of oil from Russia and probably still is buying it indirectly. So any munitions we buy from them is a drop in the bucket.

The media has turned Russia into the bad guy. I’m not buying what they’re selling. All the wrong people are backing the other guy. Therefore I try to buy all the Russian stuff already here.
The Obama’s, Clinton’s and Biden’s are up to their necks in Ukrainian corruption. Trump tried to expose it and look where he is at now.

Why is it that Uktaine needs our help with small arms + Ammunition. Are there not major manufacturing facilities in Ukraine that could litterally supply their armed forces 20×30× over??? Or has Russia blown up their facilities and supply depots.

I just can't believe that a country with that kind of tension from the north wouldn't be swimming in small arms and ammunition, even places like Serbia and Albania have MASSIVE stockpiles of arms.

Now as far as advanced missiles and batteries of assault drones and assault vehicles, I can see why they would come to us for those I guess......

I want to buy Russian ammo, or any ammo. Because another thousand rounds of 7.62x39 just sounds like a great idea. But that’s my fun money for a month or more, and I haven’t shot the hundreds of rounds I already have, so….. someone else can have my share. I’m generous.
