Killing time waiting on a physical therapy appt, so I wondered in to a small town "swap shop" place.
Think pawn shop that doesn't loan money, only buy and sell. 3 fairly overpriced guns on the place, which was a surprise since I wasn't expecting them to sell guns (They're in fact a FFL licensed dealer).

In the back, they had stacks and stacks of ammo priced reasonably all things considered. 250 round Browning 9mm and .40 for $90, Rem Cor-lokt .30-06 for $25. Lots of x39, though I didn't see the price. A pile of Eley Sport for $8/50. Not that great, but he had 20 boxes. I was gonna grab 2 to try, but couldn't help myself. I offered $100 for all 2000 rounds and he said "sure".

Little digging around shows it's out of production, but info I've seen and the "made in Mexico" on the boxes point out the possibility Aguila made it. Anyone know? Anyone used much of it? Does it compare at all to the Eley stuff the CMP was getting? Thanks in advance!

Good pickup for sure . Around here if I can find a sale for .10 a shot I’m happy.

Eley and Aguila had a deal to work together years ago. I still have bricks of Aguila .22 marked “Eley Prime” back when that partnership was still in effect. Later on the bricks were marked “Aguila Prime”, but that note may not be on the boxes anymore (I’ll have to check some recent production stuff.)

Stay safe.

I still have a brick or two. It shoots okay from my CZ, but not as well as CCI Green Tag.
I'm not expecting match grade accuracy or consistency since I have ammo that covers those bases. More hoping for better than average/Federal AutoMatch/CCI SV. I'm down to my last brick of the Eley CMP stuff, which I really like for affordable plinking.

I shot Eley Sport extensively a few years back. Thousands of rounds, suppressed and unsuppressed. It was decent ammo for reasonable price and performance.
What stopped me purchasing it was light strikes across 3 different rifles. I don't know if it was one batch or not, but since ammo is expensive in the UK and I was buying several thousand at a time, I didn't risk buying any more of those.

In my experience it is slightly better than cheap bulk ammo. But there is better ammo out there. Not bad if the price is right.

I'm not sure about that. Have you tried Eley Action?
I just picked up 50 rounds of Eley "Club" yesterday for $0.28/rnd.....as well as a box of Norma Match for the same price. Itll be interesting to compare the two. Ive also got some Eley Match, Wolf Match and CCI SV kicking around. Maybe Ill do a comparo shoot next time I get my BSA to the indoor range.

Aguila Super Extra was the most common cheap ammo at the show, bought 500 rounds of that for $.09/rnd.

My Sako P05 liked the Eley Sport enough that I used it for Smallbore Silhouette competition until I couldn't get it anymore. Like any ammo, though, some lots were noticeably better than others. I have been shooting the Eley Target and Club with similar results. YMMV.

Over the years these are the Eley rounds I have tried:

Rifle number 1 (Thompson Center R55 Benchmark)

Rifle number 2 (Thompson Center R55 Benchmark)

Rifle number 3 (SIG 522)

Rifle number 4 (Rimfire Magic, which is a 10/22 clone)

I sold the SIG522 and I have drifted away from Eley and more towards RWS. The best round for reliability, accuracy, suppressor use and reasonable cost is RWS Target Rifle. Obviously that opinion is limited by what I can get hold of here in the UK.

In the early days, Eley Sport held that title. It was a decent round, not too expensive and suppressor friendly. I fired more than 15k rounds of it in my guns, I don't know how much I fired in the club guns, maybe another 1000.
Then I had a lot of trouble with several thousand rounds of Eley Sport. I was getting light strikes across 3 rifles. So I ditched it.

Tenex is probably the best of the best but I can't afford it.
Club, Practice and Action are all below Sport in terms of consistency. I'm shooting small printed targets at 25 yards from the bench.
Another round I had trouble with was Eley Force. It is not suppressor friendly, so I fired it unsuppressed. It was fine in all three rifles except for the SIG522 when using Black Dog drum mags. It simply will not feed in a drum mag (I tried two different ones).
For that reason I did not buy it again. These days I will only buy rounds that are suppressor friendly.

By the way this is the box label for the Eley Sport we were using at our club:

I have 3-4 bricks of the Aguila "Eley Prime" on the box. Shoots good in my 39A and Marlin 25N. Yeah, the newer Aguila is marked "Aguila prime". Haven't shot any of that.

My understanding is that those which are labeled "Sport" in the UK are sold as "Target" in the States. 16526478549049166427628337956253.jpg
These are what I'd picked up the other day. They do say "Made in Mexico" but they do have an "E" headstamp.
