What battle rifle to get?

POF Revolution piston or MCX Spear. POF Revolution is small (AR-15 sized) and light at around 7.4 lbs. The Spear is an lb heavier but has interchangeable barrels and a folding side charger in addition to the rear charging handle. Both are piston driven.

SCAR…not against an ar10 and can be had for much less $ and a good one “might” be as accurate as the scar…

Mine shoots 3/4” groups with federal 168 match as well as fed m1a 168 grain (actually have a few times close to 1/2” as i recall)..regardless, VERY accurate

it’s VERY light for a 308, ergonomics imo are excellent, it runs clean with suppressor, extremely reliable, and again imo, in its own category of “cool” (think hollywood chooses it to be used in so many movies for another reason?)

There are a lot of good options but as far as i’m concerned it has literally NO shortcoming other than it’s $$$

I took Byron's HK91 into the deer stand. Once. The ergos were so bad, it was practically unusable. FALs, on the other hand, have great ergos.

Oops, ya got me! I haven't watched it since I sold my M1A a few years ago......its just not the same.
Though I do have a retro "M16" now, so maybe its time again!

Had a brother in law who played it every time I brought his sister home for a visit. It seems like I've seen it 20 times.

Well which ever one you choose I suggest having a picatinny rail on it for having the option of easily attaching a optic .S&W and PSA make AR-10's that stay under $1300.00, as a left hand shooter I like the MIA or AR style the best.

No good reason. Cantankerousness and an unreasonable opposition to ubiquity in the main.
I guess a lot depends on what you plan to do with it. Chances are you won't ever use it in any kind of battle so it is either a shooter, a competition rifle of some sort, or a trophy of some sort. The choice of rifle kind of depends on what you really want the thing to do. A lot of rifles look really nice hanging on the wall. Or sitting in a safe.

I can remember not that long ago when the h&k rifle used mostly to mangle brass was the hot setup. For a while M1A's were the hot set up. Along the way there were all kinds of other rifles that were the fad of the moment.

These days I think your best bet All around is some kind of AR-style rifle in 308. But if you want something else, see if you can shoot a couple of different rifles and see what you like. It's a bad idea IMO to spend a few thousand bucks on a rifle and all the accoutrements that go with it only to find out you don't particularly like shooting it.

If you are looking for a more modern battle rifle then I would go with the SCAR. If you are looking for a more nostalgic or historic military design then I would go FAL the G3.

Yes, it was “Joker”. The Squad’s M60 gunner was “Animal Mother” played by Adam Baldwin. I watch it once-twice a year just cause… can about recite the entire movie word for word. It’s just one of those movies. My dad always told me it was the most real adaptation boot camp. He was Marine Corps though, & his tour was ‘69-‘70.

I’ll be the odd man out.
I was shooting an HK91 long before I had a FAL and never felt the FAL fit me … I’ve always been more comfortable and accurate with the HK. The HK delayed blowback system is simpler in every way and completely reliable and great sights … not that they couldn’t be improved on, but again, simple and effective.

If the recoil is too harsh, get an HK21 recoil buffer & rubber butt pad, it makes a ton of difference. There is also a PSG-1 precision trigger group if the standard trigger is too heavy.

I also like the AR10, my first was in 1994, a KAC SR25 Match and have had several since, currently have a SiG M17 (308) and JP Enterprise in 6.5 Creedmoor with a Sharps receiver set.

I had a SCAR 16 briefly, I felt that it was completely over priced, had a cheap feel to it and didn’t like that it was 3 different shades of baby poop brown, and for $2500 it had a poopy trigger … I quickly sold it while they were in high demand and that’s all the reason I need not to get a SCAR 17.

It’s actually the Roller Delayed Blowback system. The HK91 was the HK41, was the G3… which is what most people had. And itself was a copied design of the Cetme produced FIRST, in Spain. Good design, but man are they hard on brass!

David Hoback:

My newish pair of PTR-91s are my only centerfire rifles along with the VZ and Maadi AKM. Never owned anything related to any HK, nor FAL, M1A-1 etc. These HK clones are so much fun to shoot, and with such good iron sights, that they are the Favorite Guns.:)

How Favorite, You Ask? o_O

My excellent CZ PCR and Sig P225 (“pre”- P6 civilian 225), quite frankly, mostly just pass the time while I —wait— for a PTR’s barrel to cool off.

This website needs a Rifle “sub” forum to be called Battle Rifle.

There is probably enough interest in most of these rifle types (described here) to support it.

Let’s not add more clutter I think Most like it how it is you start adding sub forums and it gets messy real quick also I don’t know how much extra work that would create for the mods and the people who keep this Amazing place running!

If it doesn't have to be a battle proven semi-auto rifle, I would give the PWS MK218 a shot. I love my 5.56 MK116 model.
