How interchangeable are parts on the Pietta revolvers.
Could one expect the frame from an 1851 Navy in 44 steel be swapped out with a brass frame. Talking swapping a brass frame for the steel using the same barrel and grip frame of the brasser. Or would a Pietta 1860 Army frame swap out to the 44 Navy.

Looking to up grade the carbine I pictured in my thread “Odd Ball” with a case hardened steel one.

They generally swap out pretty easily. The problem comes in when you try to mix and match old parts with new. Changes were made in small parts at different times. Cylinders before about 2000 have different size notches than newer ones.

What hawg said.

They all swap out very well of recent years.

Just buy brand new when you buy and the parts will have a high probability of fitting well. If you buy a used Italian by either Pietta or Uberti don't expect anything to be easily swapped except maybe aftermarket nipples. Basically if you get used consider that gun a custom one off job, so best make sure it's in good condition before you buy because if something breaks or you find the bore or chambers rusted/pitted, you're stuck with it like that.

Hands are not a drop in fit. Expect to do some fitting to get them to work. Pietta has changed hands a few times. I broke a hand on a new G&G a few years ago. There was a guy on another forum that sold parts. He sent me five different Pietta Hands and said send back the four that won't work.

I’m hoping to just take the steel frame with internals and mount the grip frame from this carbine on it, slip the cylinder and barrel on 03BDCA4A-2BF8-40BA-9A9B-57AB8C2236B1.jpeg A9E43825-704E-40E8-AB26-918CEA0C8CD9.jpeg 52C10F28-F5A0-4945-9109-4A9F39665DE8.jpeg and be good to go. I’d like to get away from the brass frame so I can shoot full charge loads.

That’s dicey. It’s preCNC, so don’t expect a good fit up.

I’d probably just shoot it until it’s stretched.

CNC began in 2002. Anything after that date should be CAM/CAD and fit (frames, barrels, etc) with exception of the "bell bottom" grips and grip frames...those parts do not Mix 'n match but the entire grip/gripframe/trigger guard will as an assembly.
Anything pre-2002 is a toss-up.

I think I’m going to try and find one of Piettas 1851 Navies (44) with the color case hardened frame and a standard 7.5 barrel. New if I can find one in stock. If they don’t swap well I’ll have another cap gun to my collection.
The carbine goes off to a guy in Alaska in a few days for his “Texas Tune”. Basically a cap raker and action stop and some spring work.

Tell that guy hello from me… if you’d be so kind.

I swap barrels and grips around ion my 3 1851s. Have not had an issue but all are only 10 or 15 years old.
D

Stick to 10-15 grain loads with some cornmeal filler and just enjoy that carbine for what it is. Do not load it full of powder as the .44s with brass frames tend to beat themselves to death in short order.

Will do

He's been pretty quiet lately, gotta remember people ain't at the top of the food chain where he went, also he mentioned that shipping stuff can be a little dicey as well as internet service.

Answered my email quickly. Also advised sending the parcel in a white priority mail box.

Don't hear much from him it seems?

Doesn’t advertise for work, But will for past customers.

Good to know he's still out there and doing ok. Not many youngsters that are interested in doing this kind of work.
