Wilson Combat 47D vs. ETM 8-rd battle

I have had issues with the 47D (only) in one 1911; a Colt Combat Commander. The 47D seemed to fail to lock the slide back when empty. ETM, Tripp, CMC, Colt, MecGar, etc. all work fine. The 47Ds all work fine in all of my other 1911s though.

I use the ETMs in my 1911 mainly for shooting USPSA single stack. I have the Dawson basepads on them. I did pick up some of the Vickers thinking theres less chance of dirt getting in them plus the followers are different. I use them only for major matches. I have enough ETMs that for monthly matches I just swap out a dirty mag for a clean one instead of cleaning during the match.

I'm thinking of ordering a couple of Ed Brown mags to try in my backup gun because it doesn't consistently lock open with the Wilsons.

The Ed Brown mags are Checkmate. I've run a few thousand through my Dan Wessons without a problem.
Did buy a few ETMs and not overly fond of the plastic follower.

I have to ask how hard do people run their 1911 mags? It is not just rounds through the tubes its mag changes at speed from a pouch, dropping them on the ground during a mag change, slamming them into the magwell etc... When you use mags in this way is what separates the wheat from the chaff. If you are only standing firing a string removing the mag placing it on the bench and inserting another the overall quality of the construction does not matter as much. IMHO

I’m planning to run my mags in Heavy Metal USPSA single stack! in a few years. So I’m going to slam, smack, kick, throw in mud - dirt, all that fun stuff!

Another question where a Search would yield many answers.

47Ds, ETMs, and Chipp McCormick are all fine. If they did not work, Wilson would not sell them.
my research shows that shooter wanted a update to the aging 47D line, so WC came out with the ETM line including the Vicker.

I standardized on the CMC PowerMag right after I bought my first Kimber almost 20 years ago... never had a problem, even loading them to 8 rounds. The base is VERY solid... they have been abused for many years and I haven't lost one yet. I'm sure the Wilson is a good mag, too.

Be careful... one 1911 usually turns into two... or three... or...

never a truer statement! “Be careful... one 1911 usually turns into two... or three... or...”

I’m like the Colt’s a lot! I love carrying them too. Feels good, feels right!

Dude I literally told you that in your other thread and even posted the video of Bill and Ken talking about the evolution of Wilson Combat mags. I am willing to bet you don't even know who Ken is. Again I am not sure if you are serious or not but you literally have no idea what you are talking about.:thumbdown::eek::barf:

ETMs exist because of the issues with the 47Ds. The 47 7 rounders are the some of the best 1911 mags made. The 47Ds are just ok. They work great until they don't. For that money I prefer Tripps or just go to the ETMs.

You better buy better 1911 if that is your plan.
