It came up in another thread today that it's been a while since we did a shoot and post kinda thing, and it seemed like a good time to do another.
I happened to enjoy @ford8nr Rimfire Prove It thread, so I thought we might just do a direct reboot. The original thread can be read here.
https://www.thehighroad.org/index.php?threads/rimfire-prove-it.836805/

but the basic "rules" were outlined as such.

"Anyone is free to join in per rules listed.
Print the target, scale to fit an 8-1/2 x 11 piece of paper. 3 shots per bull, total 12 shots / 120 points. 50 yards, any sight, any position. NO LEAD SLEDS or BENCH REST COMPETITION BIPODS. Standard folding bipods, front and rear bags OK.

Post a pick of your target below with details, rifle, sight, ammo, position ..."
(target used is uploaded on this thread as well as the original)

Iron sighted guns may be shot at 25yds!

Would you guys be interested in doing this one again? If so what if any changes do you think should be made?
for instance, I dont know if we ever came up with a good way for the Iron sight guys to score on these
targets....I know I couldnt reliably hit the black with my ironsighted buckmark at 50yds.

We’re in the midst of moving right now, plus two matches this month, photographing a wedding, and coaching baseball AND summer freestyle, so I may be hard pressed for time to do this one, but if I can steal some time to play, I’ll shoot it again with a few rimfires. I’ll be interested to see how these Chargers do, and I’ll be putting a new Nightforce NX8 I won last month on top of my Savage Mark II I used for this in the last instance.

Could start with a +12 handicap for iron sights or some such?
That might work, to be honest I couldnt eve TRY to shoot these targets with an iron sighted gun, so IM really not much help in figguring this one out.

I am in. How long do we have to accomplish the challenge?

I will probably shoot this MKII:

I dunno, hadn't really considered a time limit....dont think the original shoot actually had one....We could maybe limit it to one or two entries per gun, shoot till were bored or out of equipment, then do something else?

I'm interested!

Yes, I second this proposal.

Does the Caldwell the Rock front rest with a separate rear bag meet the rules?

As suggested we could set them up separately, and/or perhaps give the irons a shorter...maybe 25yd range......?
This is just a fun shoot, so there's nothing really riding on screwing up (except perhaps pride lol), but Id like to see irons have a reasonable chance of shooting Xs....again I suck with irons so my input might be way off base lol.

I also like the idea of giving the irons a buff to scoring, or perhaps some combination there of?

Im not familiar with that rest, so i looked it up......seems OK to me, I dont see an issue with a basic adjustable front rest, tho perhaps a full bench-style machine rest might be a bit much.

I had planned on bedding a couple 22LR but have too much on my plate. I might drag one or two to the range and shoot it again. My 540XR did real well. Since this is for informational purposes more than a competition I don't see a need for classes but I will go along if you want to do that. Do we want alot of cherry picked groups. I just did a sight in and shot one target with one gun. No cherry picking. Are we on our own in that regard. Guess I don't care too much.
I am good with whatever rules are set. Fun in any regard.

Maybe a sight in/refine zero, and then shoot one set of targets per gun would be a decent challenge?

I too gathered up a few .22’s to go have some fun with today but life made me work instead.

At least I got the targets printed out…

My take will be coming the first sunday that i am not mud bogged out of my shooting land here in kansas. Rain for the next 4 days and into next week

Is nobody out there shooting? I guess I am the first to post.

My Savage.

My score. Was pretty decent until I shot the last 3 (bottom right). Not sure why the awful spread so I'll just blame it on the ammo.

My Henry with Skinner rear sight. Shot at 25 yards.

Just for the helluvit. Not good. I may just scope this rifle. It's my grouse hunter.
And finally:

across the road is the local airfield where the Forest Service sets up their air attack crews in the summer. They were practicing a little fast roping.

I was gonna shoot last night but siloutte league ran long. I ended up shooting 2 rounds ( 80 shots offhand ) and really couldn't convince myself to sit at a bench. This week / weekend is my son's hooding for his PhD, so probably not till beginning of next week :(
