Anyone hunt with 6.5 Swede?

When the Germans invaded Norway, there were a few 6.5 X 55 rounds shot at the Nazi's before the Home Forces were over whelmed. Both Norway and Swede adopted the same round before the Kingdoms separated. The pre WW2 American Rifleman had an article about the marksmanship of the Norwegians and their Krags against the Germans. It made for great stories, as I recall, Norwegian riflemen killing Germans at 1200 yards. The Germans learned not to to be silhouetted at those distances, as the Norwegians could plink them. Unfortunately, the Germans cheated, instead of fair fights, heroic mano e mano combat, or dueling small arms, the Germans used their Stuka's, Panzers, and artillery and took over the country.

Bastards!
Isn't that what the US does?

I have a Howa in 6.5x55. It is a tack driver. I've never used it on game or deer, because my current hunting situation is in heavy brush and my longest shot might be 60-70 yards (the last three deer have been 20-30 yards). I pretty much limit my deer hunting to 30-30.

if you loaded some 156 or 160 grain round nose (when you can find them to order) they’ll be just as effective as a brush gun. Deadly accurate too!

I've not hunted with my Swedes yet. But I love shooting them. They are accurate and far more comfortable to shoot off the bench than my .30-06s and .300 Win Mag. I plan onm taking my Ruger out this coming season at least once.

No, but I would like to! I have a Swedish Mauser in 6.5x55 but the irons shoot ridiculously high and I’m just not a a fan of the Mauser V-Notch. So some day I would like to convert it to Sniper configuration, legal in CMP matches so I can shoot it there as well in the deer woods.

I have a 6.5x55 carbine with the short barrel and the piece of pipe pressed on the end to make it legal to import back when. It was sporterised sometime back in the '50s. The stock appears to be an old George Herter birdseye maple and second grade of course. Herter must have sold a million of those. I have taken several deer in my son-in-law's corn field here in Nebraska with it. It and I both like a Sierra 140 grain bullet over 43 grains of IMR 4350.

Can you send a photo?

I have a sporterized 18" barrel 6.5x55- with a gain twist shoots tight clovers at 100 yards and I have taken white tails out to 250yrds- 120 to 140 grain bullets shoot very well - 160 round nose stuff shoots well but what you gain in weight you lose in velocity- this rifle really got me turned on to 6.5s..... I have many now from the 260 Rem to the 26 Nosler-
