I bought a new Tikka Tact A1 6.5 Creedmoor weekend before last, and have had it out the range 3 times now. Very accurate and I really like the gun overall. But having some issues. The spent shell does not always get extracted. I oiled the extractor, and cleaned the gun before each range trip. But the problem is getting worse. Happens maybe twice in 10 rounds. It will not extract snap caps at all. A mix of factory ammo (Hornady, Aguila, Win), all of which had the issue.

Another issue is a feed issue. The bolt will not go forward to chamber the next round. Happens maybe once or twice per 10 rounds. I'd seen a vid by Sage Dynamics about this. Just reach in the breech, push the shells down in the mag, and it starts working again.

Called Beretta, who owns Tikka, expecting to have to send the rifle in. But they decided to send me a new bolt to see if that fixes the issue. I was surprised they didn't want my old bolt first, a CC#, etc. Pretty happy with the service from Beretta so far.

I'm sure hoping this is the fix. The folks at Bass Pro, where I bought it, said they'd facilitate sending the rifle off to Beretta if need be, but I'm sure hoping I don't need to do that.

That’s good to hear. I was looking at Beretta shotguns about 10 months ago and called Beretta with a question regarding the feasibility of installing their Kickoff system on a gun that didn’t have it… basically, I needed to know whether the stock of a particular gun could readily accept the system or not. The rep transferred me to a Beretta gunsmith who politely and candidly explained that it could only be done with costly modifications and that it was not merely a “plug and play” affair in my situation. I was impressed. He didn’t make me feel like I was keeping him from something more important and I am confident that he was not feeding me BS as the forums had indicated this was the case, but I wanted to verify before I made an expensive purchase.

That's an interesting offer, and says something about their confidence in their manufacturing process.

Got the new bolt, but haven't tried it yet. A little disappointed in it. It's a Sako T3X bolt. Not anodized black like my stock one is on my Tikka, and the bolt handle is shorter with a smaller ball. But if it solves the other issues, I'll see if I can swap parts between the two to get back to the original look.

....T3s use a solid bolt body bolt head dont that? The only parts youd be able to exchange would be the bolt handle?

Im not sure id be comfortable just slapping a new bolt in that and going bang. Id at least want to check for excessive headspace.
