I have a cz 455. My cousin wants it. I'm toying with the idea of trying something else.

The 457 is an option I suppose, but I was also looking at:

Tikka t1x
bergara bmr
Christianson arms ranger


The ranger has a $250 rebate on it right now, making it the cheapest of the bunch. I handled one at the nra show, and it felt light as a toy, and I liked the ergos. Action was a little rough and reports are spotty in regards to ejection.

Has anybody compared any 2 of those and had a favorite?
 
CZ would get my first-choice vote, seeing as I have one, but if you don't want another CZ, though I don't own either the Tikka or the Bergara, I've looked at and handled both in the store, and I think either of those would get my alternate vote.
 
Hard call. I would go Tikka of those. I shoot CZ 452 but have been looking at reviews and experiences of friends and looking to upgrade. I think today I would buy a 457 based on reviews. There is lots of overlap and one individual rifle might beat any of the others from what I can tell. All are good rifles.
 
Like others I love my CZ, just a great rifle. I think if I was looking for another bolt 22 I would be looking at something vintage as that is just where my interests lie. But as to current offerings, you are picking what I think, and it seems like most others are the cream of the crop.
 
I had a CZ 452 American for years. Sold it after buying the Tikka. The walnut stock on the CZ looked nice, but I never liked the safety, the trigger was a little stiff, and the action was a little rough. But in spite of that it did shoot very well. Just not as well as the Tikka.

The Bergara looks good, but I've been disappointed in their centerfire rifles. They get a lot of positive chatter on the internet, but 2 out of the 3 that I owned didn't shoot as well as they looked. Can't say about their 22's.

Had the opposite experience with Ruger. I've had several positive experiences with Ruger American rifles chambered in 223, 308, and 6.5 CM. Butt ugly rifles, but they shot well. But the Ruger American 22 was a disappointment.

Granted those are small examples and others may have done better.
 
If I were standing on the corner of CZ Avenue and wanting to walk uptown, I wouldn’t even look down Tikka Road, Savage Street, Bergara Boulevard, or Ruger Lane. Anschutz or RimX would get my money today, depending which particular shooting discipline you prefer.
 
I compared the CZ 457 to the Tikka and the Bergara (no experience with the Christiansen Arms offering). Also looked at the Ruger Precision Rimfire, which is not really in the same league. All three (CZ, Tikka, Bergara) are nice rifles, but I ended up with a CZ 457 Precision Varmint Chassis.

It was expensive and a bit on the heavy side, but it’s just a superb rifle - especially after I replaced the Luth-AR stock with a Magpul PRS Lite (which did require fitting). Extremely accurate with a good trigger out of the box and a very smooth bolt. The new safety and reduced bolt throw versus earlier CZ rimfires is a definite upgrade.

It’s also an absolute joy to shoot suppressed.

Just got a Bergara scoped today but it hasn't been shot yet. Maybe tomorrow I can ring it out. I like the feel of it and the trigger is excellent. I'll post some pictures when I hit the range.
It was a tossup between the Bergara and the Tikka, but since I like my B14, I thought I would stay with the brand.
 
I found a guy on 24hourcampfire who has a ranger, a bergara, and a tikka. (no cz)
I asked if he only got to keep one, which would it be. this was his response.

"I’d probably keep the Ranger, but they all have their high points.

The Ranger is super light, a nice stock, uses 10/22 magazines, and a great trigger. If you can get one for $450, that’s the cheapest I’ve ever seen them. I would consider buying another one or two for my kids, if I saw them for that price.

I had to send my Ranger back, because of feeding issues, but they got it back to me in about 4 weeks, and it’s been perfect ever since.

The Tikka has the smoothest action, and is probably the most accurate, but not by much. The Tikka is heavier, though, and I don’t like how the magazine hangs down. The stock sucks, easily the worst stock of the three, but there are aftermarket options.

The Bergara is a great shooter with a pretty decent stock. The trigger on mine was pretty good, right out the box, but my buddy is disappointed with the trigger in his BMR. The action is the roughest of the three, though, so I hope it smoothes out the more I shoot it. The Bergara has a magazine that hangs down, like the Tikka, and the 10-rounder really sticks out. The BMR is probably my least favorite rifle of the three."

The 455 is close to the best rimfire I've ever owned. I wouldn't part with it for love or money, at least until I couldn't shoot guns anymore. Let your relatives buy whatever they want, or help them buy something. That's my opinion and I'm sticking to it! Picher;)

I currently have a 455 and it shoots pretty good but not as good as a couple of 452's that I had. I had a 22 mag and 17 mach2 that were fine. Then ammo got scarce and expensive so I sold them. The 455 that I have now has a little creep in the trigger, but the wood is pretty nice fiddleback.
 
I think if I were to get a new rifle it would be a CZ 457 MTR or Anschutz. I would think about a Vudoo. From what I see there are several rimfires in that class. One might beat another but not by much. CZ still seems to dominate Sporter rimfire competition. There are some very good rifles but reviews vary on all of them.
I think the only substantial jump is Anschutz or Vudoo. Or a good Remington 40X.
 
I guess I'm just lucky: I have a Mossberg 46B tubular mag. .22 from the 1950's. (A gift when I was a kid) Drop-dead reliable. Wish I had the detachable mag. version instead, but that's quibbling. Not purty, but oh so accurate.
 
May be off topic but my 540XR that I shot 119 out of 120 on the prove it target a couple years ago is more accurate than my CZ 's, but it is not a Sporter.
 
I’m in agreement with those who say take a leap rather than a side-step if you’re looking for more than you’re currently getting. Heck my old Marlin 25N can hang with my 452, no point in spending money if it won’t shoot really small as opposed to shaving off a single .100

I know they’ve gone up in price but used to was a lot of different military training rifles out there that could shoot small on a budget. Simpsons has a Kimber 82 in great condition under $1,500…

I also have a 25n that is just a fantastic rifle let down by an OK trigger.
