Ever Reached a Point

Never say never. I've been selling off my accumulation so my wife won't need to deal with it when I die. But I just bought a Ruger Mini 14 Ranch Rifle that caught my fancy. Can't think of anything I'm currently lusting for. If something cool and interesting comes down the pike, all bets are off.

I reached that point 2 garands, 2 enfields,1 30-40 krag, 1 carcano, 1 m1 carbine, 2 sks, and 1 AK 47 preban ago!!

kimberkid euphemized,

Unbeknownst to her I’d been talking to a (jeweler) Larry and had him re-size the stone with a 1.25 karat diamond … I left it on her desk and when she got home I just told her her it was on her desk … I got a lot of mileage out of that one![/b]

Back to topic...

In truth, with one exception, I never disposed of a gun I didn't regret sooner or later. (Don't want to mention brand or model.) The most regretted was a Colt Model of 1917 (.45 ACP/Auto Rim revolver) which I traded for something face-to-face. Seems as time goes on, I liked that gun more and more. Well, it wasn't really mine anyhow. It said "Property of U.S. Gov't" right there on the barrel.
<sigh>

Seems like about half the time, I've got something on my "next to buy list," but I do occasionally reach the point where it feels as though there's nothing I need or desire.

Doesn't mean I don't still buy anything that tempts me; I tend toward impulse buying on occasion. Just because. Most times those purchases would be older revolvers or 1911s.

Just now it seems I "need" a SIG P-320 XTen. Because bear. ;)

I'm pretty much past that point; been downsizing the guns & related stuff the last few years. Sold off some safe queens and plan on keeping only stuff that I shoot. Although I picked up a Ruger Mark 1 .22 pistol with the bull barrel a couple months ago. It's nice, the price was right and my excuse was that it doesn't take up much room in a safe. Didn't really need it, just couldn't resist. It gets shot so that I can justify keeping it.

Where there wasn’t a “next gun” on your list? I feel like I might be there. I know several members here are shooters more than collectors. I fall somewhere in the middle between shooter and accumulator. I don’t want guns that I won’t shoot, but there’s always been a “next gun” for me. I’ve got money from selling a few guns lately and the rule between my wife and I has always been that gun money remains gun money, as in, it doesn’t get used to pay the bills and such unless there is a dire emergency. I think I’ve reached a point though where I just want to shoot what I have. I’ve picked up several new rifles in the last year and a half and haven’t really had time or ammo to really get used to any of them yet. Maybe something is wrong with me. I should probably schedule a doctor’s appointment.
Kind of. There is a always a new gun or type that I may see in passing or randomly think of that reignites my interest but as of the last few years I've had more self control and make certain that it serves a purpose.

I won't pass up any great deals though, I'm just not out looking for anything really ecen though I'm still happy to check things out... As of the last number of years, I turned my attention to collecting "ammo" and actually shooting guns and putting nice optics and stuff on the guns I already have. There was a time where I would buy anything and everything, even bought a Hi-Point just cause. :D

There are really only a few guns that are on my "to do" list, another trap shotgun, a nice higher end .22lr rifle (or 2), .223/5.56 bolt action rifle and possibly a semi auto shotgun like an 1100 or 930 or 1301.

As mentioned earlier in the thread, I’m there. I’ve done the high-end 1911 thing. It was fun, but expensive and I found myself dealing with diminishing returns on my happiness scale. I’m now down to two great 1911s. I’ve done the high-end AR thing and found that I’m just as happy with a stock FN15. I’ve chased the perfect dedicated shotguns and found that other than a dedicated trap gun, a field gun does everything else. I’ve chased the perfect tactical shotgun…M1, M4, Beretta and found that I like the Mossberg pumps. I’ve chased the perfect carry gun and am right back to a snub nosed revolver or my Classic PPS. I wish I had all of that money back as it didn’t buy my happiness.

There is always something on my list, usually something I refuse to pay for, this is different over afford. I could afford a Johnson, but refuse to pay for one. I have babbled at length on the 77/357, that stupid thing costs far more then it should, and I have said I just refuse to pay that much for a stinking ruger. Finally I am just thinking....well hell I will just do it, been shooting the lever 357 a great deal lately as well as the 9mm marlin, bet this thing will get fondled a great deal as well, so going to do it.

Past that I know there are other things, but nothing I can think of digging in my wallet.

At 70 and I've been shooting and competing for 50 years there aren't too many guns that I liked and didn't buy over that time frame.

I'm not a collector. Once I'm done with a gun I sell it and buy the next one on my want list. I've chased after the golden ring and have found a few. I now have only 5 guns in my collection and I shoot every one of them.

Can't think of one more that I need.

Sort of. I'm only thinking of my next gun in terms of what happens after I shoot this one out or I can no longer get components for it. Which could very well happen given that it's an older milsurp.

I spent an hour last night looking around my gun and reloading rooms trying to figure out how I accumulated so much stuff. I'm seriously looking to get rid of some stuff so my other half doesn't have to later. I have a list of certain guns that are going to friends that have admired them over the years.

I went to a gun show today and wasn’t tempted in the least. Eventually I’ll get another rifle, maybe something like 224 Valkyrie just to be different. I’d also like a Colt 44 magnum.

my issue now is finding a time and place to shoot my current guns. I don’t live in the country and I get bored with shooting paper at the range. I need some property.

+1
If I was there when your "pusher" displayed a 38/44 Outdoorsman, you and I would be involved in a quick-draw contest - to see which one of us could "draw" his wallet first.;)
My buddy and I both lunged for a stainless Beretta M92 from a clerk at a pawnshop once. I may have won the draw on that one, but he got the consolation prize- a Series 70 Colt Commander, so everyone left happy.

I have plenty of guns I want. I would say my next firearm is a Walther PPQ 45. Since I don't have a double stack 45 right now and the one I sold didn't fit my hand well. Then a decent hunting rifle with a synthetic stock about tied with that. I would say my needs are just about filled. I have weapons for self defense, home defense, and hunting in a pinch. With inflation going as it is, I may focus more on hunting to fill the freezer.

That’s what I did. It just wasn’t enough different I guess. It’s okay, but I didn’t know I wanted the bushmaster necked down instead of the 6.8.;)

The .223 versus Valkyrie, It’s like the Creedmoor vs Swede/260 debate, except nobody is having this one.:D
